I guess the rumored Patton remaster will fall under this category.
Who will sign for Patton remaster?

dont know much about this re-release but i was in best buy today and read the back of the cases - the old release was encoded in AVC @ 16 MBPS and the new one says AVC @36 MBPS so i can;t imagine this looking any worse, from what i remember they included the same features and audio BUT...

BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT...
the old release reads "Aspect Ratio: 1.85:1" which i believe to be the original ratio, the new box read "Aspect Ratio: 2:35:1" SO i have no idea if the box was wrong (ive known this to happen) OR oliver stone approved a widescreen crop of his own movie...

can anyone clear this up for me? i'm all about film preservation and would love to know which copy to pick up...

Being the curious type I ran out and picked this up. I didn't think to look at the bitrate while comparing the two but in motion, they look almost identical to me. Certainly not worth a $15 upgrade. I'd say the new disc might be a hair brighter and have a little less noise in the background. Oh and it's 1.85 not 2.35.

I don't have a way to take screenshots so I'll have to wait to see what gets posted in that regard.

Thanks a lot for your post. Good to know that they did not change the AR. I was debating double dipping, but perhaps I'll just hold off. I appreciate your feedback.

I have to disagree with you , the updated HD transfer is not "very good" ,it's "excellent" , well done fox and thank you mr stone

The previous release isn't bad, but the new one is improved. Better colors, contrast, grain structure, encoding.

Definitely looks better, even though slightly cropped compared to the first release..

Does anyone know anything about if they added some new extras, or are they the exact same?

Is it just a standard case in a slip, then? Nice.

Just want to put it out there that I'm a pro-calibrated 61" DLP and the differences between the two did not look as striking as those screenshots make it look. FWIW - maybe it's time to get my eyes checked!

Man, how'd you get that slip so clean? I can't even get the BB price sticker off mine.

I'm guessing it's a new scan because the color and framing are slightly different. However, I am suspecting it's from the same source or print as before as the two look very similar despite some improvements in the new version and well as encoding. As I always thought, this movie was never going to look a ton better; typical 80s film stock look.

i have no idea it was the only copy at my best buy ,the slip is not damage or anything just 2 small paint rubs at the bottom otherwise it's in excellent shape .

as for the sticker , i soaked it in goo gone for about a minute and then peeled it right off ,no residue ,afterwards i cleaned the whole glossy slip with windex , it's perfect !

I'm not even a big slipcover guy, I just keep them if I have them and I can't stand leaving stickers on them. For Wall Street, the price sticker literally covers an entire side of his face.

For anyone wanting to get slipcovers clean from goo, just use adhesive tape remover. Works every time.
