Here's a video of them being put to use. The ones in the video are almost identical to the ones I have linked above.

You can get them. You just need to make international friends.

I'm getting 3 or 4 steelbooks from Play.com thanks to a friend I made in Ireland a couple years ago on PSN. He's gonna get them for me and ship them as a gift to avoid import fees. I'll be reimbursing him via Paypal.

Also, since the discs will most likely be region locked, he's gonna keep the discs and give me a discount since I'm only getting the cases. Then, I can put the NA discs I already own (or will buy at a very good price) inside the steelbook case.

A little effort can go a long way in getting what you want. It's just a question of how much do you want them.

HMV.com ships to NA, so you can always check them for product that you might be interested in.

Here's a list of what I'm getting/have gotten... and I'm in Canada:

Play.com
The Incredible Hulk (will complete my Marvel steelbook collection ... until The Avengers releases in steelbook! )
Fight Club
Braveheart
Kick-Ass
(maybe -> depending on what the upcoming Canadian steelbook release looks like)

HMV.com
Captain America
Thor
Sherlock Holmes 2: A Game Of Shadows

Be careful with plastic bags and steelbooks!!!

I've been reading a lot lately about how most plastic cover bags on the market are made of materials that will produce small amounts of acidic oils over time. Now, with regular Blu-ray amaray cases and slip covers, probably not as big a deal as they could handle the oils more durably. But, steel and acid don't mix well no matter the proportional context of each.

Wow - what a minefield.

Luckily my steels are encased in bubble-wrap, locked inside a safe, placed in an underground bomb shelter.

On the moon.

Won't that mean that they'll suffocate?

If I had my way, all of my steelbooks would be kept in a vaccuum sealed room like those that the Vatican uses to protect their ancient documents and artifacts. However, that would require $$$ and a house that I don't have.

The general belief is that anything less than $100 is most likely going to get overlooked when ordering from retailers. Anything listed as a gift doesn't get flagged for import/duty fees no matter what the value of the item(s) inside the package.

I've done a crapload of importing of various collectables, one mask alone was $600 and I got $0 taxes or fees. Now those are all from private sellers, not retailers. So perhaps retailers are different.

The only time I've ever been dinged was when an item was shipped by UPS. They hate Canadians.. lol

Best Buy does seem to offer Steelbooks more often than the others.

Many of the Best Buy exclusives are G1 size, but I expect to see an explosion of G2 SteelBooks when the new North American SteelBook factory gets into the swing of things

Most of the Best Buy exclusives I have seen are G2. Only G1 I'm aware of was The Hurt Locker.

Because the studios won't let them. Because of copyright on the film title and artwork, the retailers have to request permission to create the steelbook packaging. If the studio doesn't agree with the proposal, they refuse permission.

iT IS THE RETAILER WHO PURCHASES THE MANUFACTURE RUN OF THE CASE, but only if permitted.

The US probably doesn't get as many because the population is less appreciative of the artistic nature of the artwork. Europeans are far more receptive to the artistry of anything in print. Canada gets them probably because the retail prices are so ridiculously high tha the studio can get a small kickback for allowing the steelbook permission. Canada often charges $28.99 + tax (or more) for new releases.
