Best Buy does seem to offer Steelbooks more often than the others.

Many of the Best Buy exclusives are G1 size, but I expect to see an explosion of G2 SteelBooks when the new North American SteelBook factory gets into the swing of things

Most of the Best Buy exclusives I have seen are G2. Only G1 I'm aware of was The Hurt Locker.

Because the studios won't let them. Because of copyright on the film title and artwork, the retailers have to request permission to create the steelbook packaging. If the studio doesn't agree with the proposal, they refuse permission.

iT IS THE RETAILER WHO PURCHASES THE MANUFACTURE RUN OF THE CASE, but only if permitted.

The US probably doesn't get as many because the population is less appreciative of the artistic nature of the artwork. Europeans are far more receptive to the artistry of anything in print. Canada gets them probably because the retail prices are so ridiculously high tha the studio can get a small kickback for allowing the steelbook permission. Canada often charges $28.99 + tax (or more) for new releases.

US have to import the steelbook & it is costly. So is Canada. i can see on the back of the steelbook like batman begins Canada or else, the steels is being made at Denmark

a lot of UK steelbooks nowadays than don't have the rating logo printed (Hurt Locker, Tinker Tailor, Paul, Hanna, Scarface & a bunch from play & universal 100th) but some are still have it & it went OOP (Scott Pilgrim, Psycho, Pulp Fiction).

Don't forget too that Future Shop in Canada has had a long history of promoting movies with SteelBooks. They have built a following and culture of SteelBook collectors over many many years.

What was the first Future Shop SteelBook? THE LITTLE MERMAID maybe? Or maybe it was THE JUNGLE BOOK. I'm not sure, but it has been probably over ten years now that FS has been providing SteelBook exclusives.

That's why you can find old SteelBooks in many Canadian pawn shops and used movie racks.

Best Buy US started, what, two years ago with THE HURT LOCKER?
