Default Blu-ray and component output

So is it confirmed that blu-ray players won't output hi-def content to component outs? If so this is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. To my knowledge they don't even make a capture card for component, so why even bother?

I don't see why not.

Possibly not on all players and recoders but I think there will be models equipped with those outputs, why not?

Because component leads won't be able to carry the new HDCP (high definition copy protocol), code. Therefore making Blu-Ray films vunerable to pirates who could then make very accurate hi-def copies.

How long do you think it will take for pirates to :-
A - Crack the encryption
B - Modify the output or input device
C - Crack the media
D - Companies to forget about it (like reigonal encoding)

The best way of stopping piracy is make it unatractive to the pirate by hefty penalties - which is the case in most countries, and the most effective compete with price DVD media (and Blu Ray) is designed as mass market, it costs the same to make 1 disc as it does to make many 1000, so the only other component is royalties. Royalties = revenue in. The studios have a choice sell 1 at $1000 or a 1000 at $1. The way they are marketed at the moment is what is the most we can get away with charging whwew we still sell a certain quantity. This now starting to get off topic but if intellience prevailed over greed I think companies may make far more money.
