Default The Beatles Anthology

I had hoped that with the 50th anniversary of the Beatles, we would have been treated to a Blu-Ray release of "The Beatles - Anthology" but alas it was not to be.

Anyone think this will ever see the change to a new format?

If it was, I would love to see it updated a bit. Quite a lot has happened since that documentary was made.

Since it was a TV production from nearly 20 years ago, it's likely that only Standard Definition masters exist. So in all likelihood, there won't be an HD release. Even though much of it was shot on film, it would be a massive undertaking to re-scan and re-edit the entire mini-series again in HD.

Add to that the fact that most of the clips included in the doc came from standard definition sources, and you're just adding to the headaches. They'd have to go track down the original films that the clips came from (and the clips that were originally not film-based wouldn't get an HD upgrade, anyway).

As you can see, there would be a lot of technical issues to deal with...

Thats all true, but also remember how culturally significant the Beatles are.....and how much money they can make.

As much as I love the Beatles and recognize their importance, I just don't see the man hours and cash it'll take to re-do the entire series in HD being worth it.

This is 4x3 SD material we're talking about, after all. The DVD box set is probably as good as it's gonna get.

The Anthology material that was used on the George Harrison documentary BD looked a lot better than on the Anthology DVD.

This would be awesome. I would definitely pick this up on blu-ray when it came out.

I'd love to see this happen too. It could include the ABC footage that never made the VHS or DVD cuts.
