Default Do you have a “must watch” shelf??

I’ve been thinking of dedicating a shelf in my movie cabinet to movies that I keep saying I should watch……but never get around to actually watching.

For example…..right now I’ve got 9 “new releases” that I haven’t watched yet. Bought them either on release day or during a sale or whatever….but for 1 reason or another, life got in the way and I haven’t put them in yet.

In addition to those 9, I’ve got IDK how many movies that I’ve only watched 1x and haven’t put them back in since that initial viewing.

I’m thinking if I have a shelf w/random movies sitting on it…..my OCD-ness will kick in and make me watch them so they aren’t sitting out of order for to long.

Either watch your movies or don't, if you have to force yourself to watch a movie then you probably shouldn't own it.

It’s not like that though. Take District 9 for example. Love it. Keep saying I should watch it again but when it’s time to pick out a movie…..either I’m not in the mood for that kind of movie, me or my wife want to watch something that’s funny, or something else catches my eye @ that moment.

I can’t be the only one this happens to.

When I was collecting dvd’s, it got to the point where I felt that if I hadn’t watched a movie in a while, it wasn’t worth owning. Fast forward a bit and I wanted to watch it and didn’t have it anymore b/c I had sold it.

I keep all my unwatched films on the top shelf of one of my bookcases. That way so when I'm looking for something to watch without anything in particular in mind, I go to that shelf first - instead of watching something I've seen a million times. Also comes in handy with friends because they know that's where all the new releases are located.

I don't know that I'd call it a "must watch" shelf, but I do usually put new blu-ray purchases in three different stacks -- one for movies I've never seen at all before (the blind-buys I've gotten due to really good reviews and/or irresisitible sale prices), one for movies I haven't seen in 10 or 20 years or more, since their theatrical showings or some film society screening, and one for movies I've watched within the past three years or so but haven't broken the shrink-wrap on the Blu-ray yet. Then, once I've watched a Blu-ray it goes into a stack of "recently watched" discs until I watch the bonus features and/or can find space to file it in my usual shelf arrangement (need to buy another shelf unit soon).

Just this week I finally got around to four in that first, never-before-watched stack: the original Swedish GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO trilogy (great and eerily timely movies, though sadly not much in the way of bonus features) and THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND (incredible Oscar-winning performance by Forrest Whitaker, and some interesting if only SD bonus features).

Wow how sweet it would be to have 3 stacks of must-watches.

If I could make it through my “back log” I’d be happy.

The worst part is, I don’t want to just throw them in for background noise when I’m working on business stuff….i want to sit down and actually watch them.

For movies I'm meaning to watch, I just pull them out an inch or so from the edge of the shelf. Seeing them stick out a little works as a reminder for me.

HA HA Same here. I got a bunch of new releases I got from CH during their big sale from a while ago. Seems like a good idea.

I'm fairly disorganized with my movies. I have a vague idea of where things are, but I probably organize things every 9 months or so and everything I picked up since is in random areas. I've got a ton of discs unwatched. But they're all out in the wild. I typically use this site to find what I'm gonna watch.

With 2 kids it seems like it takes me 2-3 nights to watch a movie...

Yep, each of my shelves has at least one "must watch" movie on it.

That’s half my problem too. I can’t really watch a movie like Underworld w/the kids still awake….i usually have to wait until they are in bed before I can watch a movie like that.

So putting a movie in @ 9 pm and staying up for 2 hours….i can typically do that only 1 night a week.

I usually keep my unwatched movies next to the entertainment center that I have, once I have seen them then it get moved to the rack BUT sometime the stack of movies to look at just keep growing just because I don't have he time or not in the mood to see a particular movie...and it get thrown on the rack, or the wife starts dusting and then everything get move
