Default Sunshine

Watched Sunshine last night.... great PQ, good Audio, pretty lame story.... Then I wake up this morning, turn on the news, and find out the Navy is going to try to shoot a rocket into a hydrogen-fuel filled satellite the size of a school-bus that is plummeting to earth..... O.K. I guess the story line wasn't so terrible afterall!

How can you compare that piece of news with sunshine?
I love Sunshine. It was one of the last movies to really impress me. The whole mood of the movie is great. I know it is not for everyone (it's not loud, full of explosions or gunshots) but it's still a great movie.
the story might be a bit hard to believe, but that's why it's called science-FICTION.

How is there anything to compare to firing a rocket at a malfunctioning satellite and Sunshine's story?? Even as a joke that's pretty bad

It kept my interest....... but then again, I tend to have to agree with this assessment

Quote:
2001, Alien, Solaris (both versions), even Event Horizon...these are all the better movies that Sunshine stole from
The very opening scene, SCREAMED "Alien" and then when the ship/ship's computer "Talked" I lost it..... then again, like I said, it kept my interest, so It's not 0/10, but I'd say somewhere around 6/10 or 6.5/10 with the Video being the Best part of it.....

yeah talking computers are NEVER used in scifi movies i loved the story until the "horror" guy came into play, if they would have simply made him a psycho member of the first crew it would have been cool. i can look past this though because as a whole everything else in this move was great.

The "Horror" guy, was a psycho member of the first crew. (I think he was the captain.)

Talking computers are just a matter of time, so why not have them in movies?

I agree completely. I really loved the first 3/4 of the movie. The end lost me because it turned away from a story of wonder, psychological stress, and weighing consequences, to a standard stalking psycho movie. But all in all, it stuck with me for a while - which is more than I can say for 90% of the movies I watch. I enjoyed it.

yeah he was, and he should have been simply that, but instead they made him seem like some kind of supernatural creature, bad choice imo. just seemed to stray of course from what the entire first half of the movie or more had established.

Maybe he should have been a guy on the original crew that went crazy, and cannibalized the original crew..... kinda the way the guy goes crazy in "The Abyss" or Jack in "The Shining" Psychological nutty-ness due to cabin fever!!! (although the abyss was depth/pressure related)

Best blind buy I ever bought!! I bought this without seeing it because I heard that the pq and audio were amazing on top of it being a really cool movie with amazing visuals.. right on all counts!

seriously one of the best looking Blu rays I now own and I loved the movie. Very cool, very creepy, very suspenseful. Just gorgeous on top of everything else.

I just loved this movie! And yes, I love 2001 and Alien/Aliens as well.

The weird captain (I thought he was kinda stuck in a time wrap or something, not entirely in our dimension) was great. The suspense keep me guessing as to what would happen next. When the computer said there were 5 people left, I am sure we were all wondering, what the heck?

Great video, sound, and the background music is fantastic. Now that I can finally play Sunshine on my Samsung 1200, I am really enjoying this movie. I plan on watching it again within the next week or so.

P.S. For you 1200 owners, be sure to turn off "Screen Messages" before you watch this movie. It will save you some heartache.

I thought the movie was pretty good except for the sketchy camera work towards the end. That ruined it for me.

Couldn't agree more. I was so impressed with the story that I actually watched the movie with Physicist Brian Cox's commentary (very rarely I watch commentary) and he proved that everything in these movie is backed by scientific knowledge except 3 minor incidents like the biologist saying outerspace temp. is -273 but actually it is -270 because there are some heat still in space from the big bang. He pointed out that they are studying the black matter than consumes stars but it wouldn't take only about 50 years or so to consume a star but couple of millions of years, so that's another artisitc license the filmmakers took.

Rented it last night and like many have stated, it was good until Freddy Kreuger showed up and turned it into a totally different film. I thought the soundtrack was excellent and really worked well with the film. Glad I didn't make a blind buy on this one though.

I still have to disagree with the previous two postings. I thought the film worked perfectly. The thing I like about danny Boyle is that thus far, he has not made a plainly 'straight' film meaning his horror stuff isnt just plain horror, his fantasy stuff just plain fantasy, and now his sci fi not just plain sci fi. I love the way he mutates and twists things to make a genre his own.

The guys a visionary IMO and I thought the movie from start to finish was just awesome with great performances by all the actors/actresses involved. but you know everyone has their own opinion and thats what makes these forums so great =]
