So i've looked around for a thread for this but couldn't seem to find anything. sorry if it's been addressed before.
Ok, so i was at best buy and the "overly smart" employee told me that the monster $100 dollar 4 ft HDMI cable would make a world of difference comparing to a say $20-$40 dollar HDMI cable. I am wondering if anyone has been able to experience this making that much of a difference. I think i have a 9' HDMI from walmart that was around $30... it may be rca brand, or phillips. Should i get a better one? Also, should i go from the blu ray player straight to the tv? will this give a better signal? i have it going to receiver then to tv... via all HDMI... i would think if i had one GOOD HDMI cable going to the receiver i would also need the same quality cable going from the receiver to the tv.... right? is there any benefit in sending the video signal through the receiver rather than just straight to the tv? Thanks for your help! |

Thanks so much guys! i found some other threads discussing this as well.. thanks for not giving me crap... sometimes these topics fly all over the place and i miss them... anyway...
how about the blu ray player to the receiver to the tv? is that necessary? what would you say to just going from blu to tv... and whats this talk about people getting audio from the blu ray to the receiver via HDMI? I have to use an Opticle cable to get audio to my receiver? am i doing something wrong or what? |

What's considered a long cable? Right now I'm running a cheap 25 ft. HDMI (long cable?) from my PS3 to the HDTV, but plan to get an Oppo HDMI switch box for my other HDMI components as well. Do tell.

i think that would be considered very long.. i have a 9ft from blu player to receiver, then another 9 ft from receiver to to LCD. I am wishing i didnt have 9ft cables... can someone tell me if shorter cables, say 4ft, would be better than 9ft? signal wise.... Still confused about the whole audio from blu ray to receiver via HDMI... |

If you don't have an HDMI capable receiver then yes, you'll want to go optical from the BDP to the receiver for your sound. You're going to get great 5.1 Multi-channel DD but you won't get True HD and other codecs off that disk that can be heard through HDMI receivers. I'm in the same boat and I have great sound reproduction just the way I described. Blu-Ray to TV via HDMI / Blu-Ray to Receiver via Optical / Cable Box to TV via HDMI... you're set. I run 8 foot HDMI cables. Last edited by Edh63; 02-16-2008 at 12:06 AM. |

same here, amazon has brand new hdmi cables for cheap, I got a 6ft cable for 5 dollars shipped, and it works awesome. Use the extra $95 to buy blu-rays to go along with your extemely cheap but just as good HDMI cable.
