how about the blu ray player to the receiver to the tv? is that necessary? what would you say to just going from blu to tv...

and whats this talk about people getting audio from the blu ray to the receiver via HDMI? I have to use an Opticle cable to get audio to my receiver? am i doing something wrong or what?

If you don't have an HDMI capable receiver then yes, you'll want to go optical from the BDP to the receiver for your sound. You're going to get great 5.1 Multi-channel DD but you won't get True HD and other codecs off that disk that can be heard through HDMI receivers. I'm in the same boat and I have great sound reproduction just the way I described.

Blu-Ray to TV via HDMI / Blu-Ray to Receiver via Optical / Cable Box to TV via HDMI... you're set.

I run 8 foot HDMI cables.
