Default how do I get my TV to display what's on my laptop?

I just got my VGA cable in the mail today and hooked the laptop to the TV and switched the input to VGA but the screen says "searching for signal" then just goes black. Is there something I need to do on the Laptop end? I'd really appreciate any help, thanks guys.

Could be a compatibility issue with your video card.... I don't know.....

Sometimes on laptops, you have to hit CTR F1 or F2 or F3 etc..... see one of the Function keys that has a screen looking thing on it???? it sounds like it's already searching, so I'm gonna guess it's an issue with your video card (they don't all support every external monitor)

I don't have mine connected, but tried one day with an S-Video cable, and it didn't work, and I never tried again. I brought it up to someone and he told me it was probably Video Card related.

Good luck.

hey, thanks. I took a look and I had to hold the "fn" button then F5. it works! the screen seems to be almost vibrating on my TV though. Probably because my TV is a little more widescreen than the comp/
