Post TV will not display 1080p Blu Ray from laptop

Hello all,

This is my very first post, sorry if I seem like a newb.

I have an HP DV9924CA laptop connected to a brand new Panasonic TH42PZ80 Plasma TV via an 10" HDMI 1.3 cable. I am using HP Quickplay 3.7 to play Blu Ray movies and I can only play them at 720p resolution even though the TV is 1080p and is able to display the desktop at 1080p.

When I try to play the movies the software gives me an error message "The VGA resource is unavailable".

Could it be that the max resolution my monitor can go is 1440x990? Could it be the HDMI cable or the software?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
