No. We know there's an announcement forthcoming.

They probably are waiting until they can announce some titles with the press release.

That is ridiculous! Who do they expect to sell/buy it? It was a damn good movie but I'll be damned if I spend full price on a HD DVD. The only HDDVDs I ever got were free or BOGOs. But I would consider it if it were less than $10.

All of the announcments are films that have pretty much already been pressed and encoded.
DO you honestly think that they will just store them away in a warehouse somewhere just to make blu boys happy?
They need to get rid of them and that means announcing them.
They will announce blu soon enough.

Well, I guess I have a different view on this;

#1. Who would buy it?

#2. Who would sell it!!

#3. They certainly had no issues withholding Blades of Glory and other Blu titles in their warehouses after they accepted the $150m bribe for the Red boys

#1 one of the 900k people that for some reason or another bought an hd-dvd drive. Not everyone has made a mad dash to sell them, movies do still work and all of that.

#2 Amazon, Best Buy and others.

#3 Because they knew they would come back to blu, hd dvd is gone for good and there is no coming back.
They have a very small window to sucker people into buying anything at all, and they know it.

Of course their releasing this movie on HD DVD. It would be waste not to since it is already made. They want to make some last bit of money while people still own HD DVD players.

I wouldn't be suprised of that happened. But their bound to make an announcement sometime this week about returning to Blu. Probably making their announcement sound as little embarassing as possible.

Someone beat you to this topic.

Paramount is just going to exhaust their remaining stash of HD DVDs. Why else would they release any movie on HD DVD? Certainly not because they think HD DVD is actually going to win now

#1. In case you didn't get the memo from Toshiba, there are only 730,000 HD-DVD devices sold WORLD-WIDE and a large percentage of these are XBOX add-on drives.

#2. Already Amazon and Best Buy are moving quickly to eliminate all remnants of the dead format as any good business retailer would. I have serious doubts that after Toshiba pulls ALL product off the shelves by the end of March that any retailer (B&M, Web, mail-order, etc) worth their salt will sell the dead product in April!

#3. By April there will be no window to open!

Another thing that is highly speculated is that they have contract obligations after recieving the 150 million from Toshiba and if they break obligations then Toshiba will be able to recoup the 150 mil. So Paramount will release what is already pressed up and at the same time try to come to a negotiation with Toshiba so they are not forking over the 150 mil... but anyways, thats the bigger picture that comes into play .. they have to go about it carefully due to the 150 million, cause at this point Toshiba would luvvvvv to get their hands back on that money after suffering the loss they have with HD DVD.

And that's the bottom line, cause Stone Cold said so.

So I guess by contract, if toshiba is still making player(not officially leave HDDVD), paramount need to keep their mouthes shut for get monthly payment from toshiba. Unless toshiba stop wiring the money and stop player producing on April, Paramount wouldn't say anything negative to HDDVD. However, they will make BD underground. They might have prepared to bring BD releases out the day they announce jump ship.

it is more complicated than that. studios have contracts with hd-dvd prg and as long as that entity exists they need to fulfill their obligations. as soon as toshiba shuts down the promotional group studios will be able to go blu. meanwhile this obviously cannot stop studios from mastering bd's just releasing.

I bet they are going to stick with DUD as long as they can... so they can get more of that $150 million in marketing dollars.

My statement is, okay fine, but did Paramount release Toshiba from their contract. Toshiba is paying Paramount to release hd-dvd movies. Just because Toshiba quit, doesn't mean they're not liable to pay Paramount any more.

It'd depend on the contract wording.

HD-DVD has been cut off at the source. I would certainly think that enables any out clauses if not rendering any contracts null and void outright.
