Default Universal Confirms Plans for Bourne and Ted Sequels AND MORE OTHER SEQUELS!

Quote:
Universal Pictures has confirmed plans to move forward with another film in the Bourne franchise and also to develop a sequel to Seth MacFarlane's box office hit, Ted. The Hollywood Reporter brings word directly from NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke, who also announced that one of the studio's goals is to increase the number of animated features to two a year.

To date, Ted has grossed close to $400 million worldwide with The Bourne Legacy performing at bit more modestly at $182 million. The studio's The Lorax, meanwhile, managed $337 million, somewhat shy of the incredible $543 million reached by Universal's first partnership with Illumination Entertainment, Despicable Me in 2010. A sequel to that film is on track for release on July 3, 2013 with a spinoff feature focusing on the "Minions" planned for sometime in 2014.

Another Bourne adventure was teased earlier this year, just prior to the release of the latest film.

"We're gonna follow Jeremy's character," producer Frank Marshall told ComingSoon.net. "Everything else is wide open. That's the great thing about this now. The table is set to go any direction we want to. But we will, I'm sure, follow Jeremy and see what happens. Jeremy and Rachel [Weisz]."

As for Ted 2, the trade quotes Burke as saying that the studio wants to move on the project, "as soon as we can."

Though not mentioned in the article, recent reports suggest that Universal is also looking to sequelize Safe House, another one of their big hits this year.

Now waits until someone says how Hollywood sucks and have no original ideas at all ever.

Didn't think they'd push ahead on another Bourne movie with the reception it got. Not that happy with Ted 2, comedy sequels rarely work.

Well, it has yet to open in a couple of markets and could still make a whole lot more worldwide when everything is said and done.

I don't really like the whole sequel craze that's going on, but unfortunately, Hollywood is first and foremost a business, and if it's a surefire way to bring in more money, then that's what they'll do. With a little luck, some of the profits will go to funding new and original concepts down the line.

It seems like everybody (including myself) was disappointed by Bourne Legacy. I don't mind Renner and Weisz's characters being the main focus, but they need to bring Damon back in some form. Without Damon this movie will tank.

LOL They are continuing the Bourne Franchise. That guy didn't mention anything about Bourne Legacy. Bourne is one of their two franchises and all he said was expect for them to work on more Bourne films. If Legacy makes money then I'm sure it will get the sequel but that's not what the guy said in the article.

Studios are just gonna keep making what brings in the big bucks. Like the saying goes, if it's not broken, why fix it? meaning the sequels will keep a coming. But its been like that for years ever since the 80's.

Yeah some pretty big markets yet. China, Japan, France and Germany.

LOL at Comingsoon.net pasting that old quote from Frank Marshall. That's some shoddy reporting.
