No format is safe from the clutches of Dragon's Lair.

That's probably because Amiga couldn't deliver the 2D rendering of Don Bluth's animation from the original laserdisc arcade version.

It'd be curious to see if BD-Java will be used to power up this BD version. It might just work like the old arcade. And now you can use those COLORED buttons on your BD remote!

I bought this on dvd when it was released years ago, and it was supposed to be compatable with the ps2 at that time. I knew all the moves by heart and could beat the game with my eyes closed based on the sound and dialog (still can), and It was basically unplayable. You had to have frame precision with the moves to get anything to work. returned it real quick.

I would buy this if they included space ace and dragons lair 2 as well, and it played like the originals.

They should also not charge more then $20 for this (even if it included all three games) because these each game can be beat in 15 minutes flat.

I hope PS3 "Dragon's Lair" runs well.......er, uh, runs just like the arcade game.
Downloading DAPHNE is a *****, and even DAPHNE 1.0 Beta still has issues like bugs, shutdowns, yadda-yadda-yadda.
Here's hoping Digital Leisure will do well. Also loved "Space Ace".

Yeah I bought this on DVD too and Space Ace. Though nothing beats the arcade, the quick response time, the beep noise that you hear, usage of the joystick... it being on the PS3, it can be just like the arcade. I doubt they would sell it at $20, more like $30 or so...

I don't think the BD versions will go all the way to include the "beep" noises. You need the DAPHNE emulator to do that.
DAPHNE can be pretty cool.......WHEN it works, that is.

Default Good Deal At $50, I Will Be Buying One

Back in 1983 this Dragon’s Lair arcade game was a classic with state of the art graphics and sound. I remember as a kid seeing Dragon’s Lair on NTSC Laserdisc for the first time, it was awesome. I plan on purchasing this title for sure. Release date for BLU-RAY is April 9th. The BD-ROM version for the PS3 would be more enjoyable. It sounds like they will have 3 versions of this game.
  • Standard BLU-RAY players version
  • Sony PS3 BLU-RAY BD-ROM version
  • Then a third version for BD-ROM PC owners most likely will appear.

To my knowledge this will be the first 1080P BLU-RAY release with a 4:3 ratio. Must have been filmed on 16MM film. This should look totally awesome in HDTV. People are use to the 480I Laserdisc and DVD quality versions. Dragon’s Lair fans like my self should be happy with a 1080P version. Hopefully they will release Space Ace and other classic 80’s Laserdisc games in 1080P BLU-RAY.

** Some people that like classic video games like Dragon’s:Lair will purchase a Sony PS3 machine just to play this classic title **

According to this link it is going to be 4:3 ratio.
http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/dragonslair.html

I think this info is wrong since for several minutes I have been looking at some awesome 1920 X 1080 screen shots in a widescreen ratio. This video game back in 1983 appears to have been filmed on 35mm film.

They also have a PC DVD-ROM version that is on several DVD-ROM’s. Also a HD-DVD version is scheduled in the summer.

Every BLU-RAY player does some BD-J support to a degree. I awesome this disc will work on all players. Now of course only a few BLU-RAY players will support BD-J Live features that require network access. For BD-J PIP features we will have to wait for new players in the fall. The good thing is the Blue Ray group mandated features on all BLU-RAY players manufactured after October 31st 2007.
I hope a HDTV BLU-RAY version of Space Ace and Dragon’s Lair Time warp is also released. While there at it why not release all the old classic Laserdisc games in HDTV BLU-RAY.

Wow, this has got to be the number one misunderstood issue in the history of home formats.

BD-J is supported by ALL players. The current Profile 1.0 supports a particular set of features.

The one everyone keeps yabbering on about is BD Profile 1.1 which adds:

- Mandatory requirement for second video decoder (allowing PiP)
- BD-J class libraries and interface code for above expanding the IME.

Why do people keep thinking PiP = BD-J?

BD Profile 2.0 is for BD-Live.

Gary
