Some people are grabbed by 2001 some aren't. Many great films are obscure and not necessarily "understood" by a large popular audience, yet these films don't "go away" or sink into oblivion. How many (what percentage of) people have read Joyce's "Ulysses"? IMO 2001 speaks for itself, as Kubrick intended it. A hard pill for some to swallow, but a fundamental building block of cinema nevertheless.
Let the ignorant lay down in their own ignorance.
Kristin: I agree that some people who watch 2001 and don't understand it, will never do, no matter what nudge you give them. I, however, watched it, felt like I had a decent grip on the gist of it, and then kubrick2001.com gave me that extra nudge to completely reveal the missing pieces. IMO its not a "you either get it by yourself, or you'll never get it" rule, there are ways to help those more-dense individuals like myself and yes, I tried to real Ulysses, Portait of An Artist was much...more enjoyable

Judging by the transformers, 300, etc. hate, it appears that every movie is bad...

These are all opinions... a thread like this is obviously going to give people with an uncommon view a chance to talk. I enjoyed most of the movies listed in this thread (some are favorites, even -- Blade Runner), but I'm sure I could list some that I thought were overrated that many loved (much of the AFI list is grossly overrated, if you ask me... and I love old movies -- many of my favorites are from 1940s-1960s).

I have always loved action & war movies although i hated this movie for these reasons.

1 - the 300 are barely armored (bare chests) so they wouldn't of lasted 2 seconds
2 - there is only 2 main action scenes with still only around 40 enemy dieing in each scene..
3 - the constant slow motion during kills ruins the genre and makes it seem unreal
4 - the sky looks fake
5 - the enemy also looks make believe or similar to Quake 2 enemies
6 - the leader is ALWAYS SHOUTING when he speaks?
7 - the storytellings seem unreal and mythological.
8 - i don't believe the traitor was really a hunchback again unreal.
9 - the mandatory grain again not real to look at (resembles a dream).

anyway goes from a war genre to a fantasy/mythological film. why couldn't it been like Troy.
Well, it was an adaption of a Frank Miller graphic novel. They only had arms and legs covered because the Pittsburg steel mills were busy making something else. Or that is what soldiers actually wore in 400BC. They actually wore less. The storytelling was done by the guy with one-eye after he got to Sparta in order to rally Sparta to fight the Persians, so he imbelished. The traitor probably wasn't a hunchback, but by making him deformed he became uglier. Leonidas was always yelling inorder to motivate his troops. Football coaches yell all time for the same reason, but I bet you never played football. The enemies were supposed to look over the top because of the one-eyed storyteller making them monsterous and less human. And grain...well I am not touching that with a 10ft pole.

Troy is a good movie, but if you are going to be picky with 300, know that Troy completely disregarded the Illiad. At least 300 is based on an actualy event.

To each his own.

Well put.

Horrible movie. That whole scene with the autobots attempting to hide outside the guy's house is embarrassingly bad. Movie is good up til then, after that, unbareably bad.
Agreed. It was too much catered towards the early teenage crowd for my taste. I'd rather watch 'The Rock' for the xth time if I want the Bay treatment

To conclude with the most underwhelming BD experience so far:

Debbie Does Dallas again There I said it. PQ sucked, so did the movie (I swear, no pun intended).

Let me end the argument:

D-War is the most overrated. Mildly impressive special effects. Poor storyline. Worst acting ever.

It's can't be the most overrated. It was never rated very highly to begin with.

The average rating here is a 3.5, that is fairly positive. I'd say a full two points higher than it should have ranked.

The movie itself is rated 2.5 on this site. (I hardly think you can count the PQ/AQ in that) I think that's about right.

i have to say it

There will be Blood (when it comes out on BD) what an utter waste of time, save for Daniel Day-Lewis' performance.
