Default Advanced Audio receivers coming in summer and late 2007

This information might be old info for some but I will post it anyways. Sherwood plans on releasing the R-972 A/V receiver for $1500 that has features like HDMI 1.3 with 1080P switching, Dolby True HD and DTS Master Audio HD decoding. So finally as soon as July/Aug consumers can enjoy the advanced audio options on BLU-RAY and HD-DVD discs.

Pioneer and Sony should also have highend receivers late 2007 that support these advanced audio formats. The receivers for most manufactories are going to be in the $1,000-$1,500 range. Over time prices will come down and in 2008 under $1,000 receivers with advanced audio decoding should be on the market.

Only HDMI 1.3 specs supports Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio for external decoding by a surround sound receiver. So yes you need both a HDMI 1.3 BLU-RAY player and a HDMI 1.3 A/V receiver that decodes the higher quality audio formats to enjoy up to 7.1 channels that is bit for bit identical to the studio master.

In the future high end BLU-RAY players should be on the market that decode the advanced audio formats inside the BLU-RAY player and convert the signal to PCM audio that works with older receivers with analog inputs or older versions of HDMI.

For HDMI 1.3 you need all your equipment to be 1.3 or else you'll get the weakest link. Receiver needs to be 1.3, player needs to be 1.3 and if you want the deep color stuff from the new spec(which by the way isn't in BD specs) you need an HDMI 1.3 HDTV set. I personally don't think they will be worth it as this would mean buying a new tv, receiver and if your player doesn' have 1.3 then a new player ! Besides, blu-ray players like the ps3 i believe currently decodes Dolby TrueHD already and will more than likely decode DTS HD MA very soon. Alot of movies in blu-ray with the exception of Fox, are there in LPCM format anyway.
