I expect Paramount to release a little sooner than Universal. Universal has to start from scratch, Paramount still has some titles stocked in their warehouse. I wouldn't be surprised if Para start releasing in April

I for one am glad Universal is starting from scratch as that means we get quality releases encoded for Blu-ray from the get go.. No crappy pre-existing HD-DUD Ports.

Let's hop so

I sure hope they get rid of that stupid "The Look and Sound of Perfect" line on the bottom of their artwork

The article says the new theatrical movies will start late spring/early summer.

It says nothing about catalog titles, which may come sooner.

Damn some of those movies are getting screwed.. American Gangster and Beuwolf and ones that were about to come out, and still hold post box office buzz, they lose that as it will be quite a while till they are on blu.

Where does it say that they're starting from scratch?

If Universal manages to release anything on Blu-ray during the month of March chances are it will be a fobbed-off VC-1 port from HD-DVD.

For something featuring higher bitrate AVC-based video, uncompressed or lossless surround as well as new menus and features, we're going to be waiting until Summer for that to be delivered at the earliest. The only way it's happening any sooner is if Universal has already been working on some Blu-ray titles for the past couple of months.

The part about late spring/early summer looks to be nothing more than an assumption by the author of the article.
It is not a quote or statement from the studios who have been prone to be quite unpredictable so far.

The longer the better. March-May is going to be expensive as it is anyway with all the current release slate coming out.

Any speculation on the re-release of OOP Paramount titles? Do you think there will be a new release date for them or will they just appear back in stores. There are a few good titles that were OOP that I wasn't able to track down at a reasonable price (for me), like "We Were Soldiers", "Italian Job" and "Shooter" which I want to try and grab once they hit the market again.

So true, especially with Paramount which started on its Blu-ray titles before the deal with Toshiba.

Bill Hunt has posted a new article on his site. In it, he talks about Paramount and he goes on to say that sources from retailers and destributors are saying that Paramount has both new and catlog titles in the works already and announcements should be coming from them within weeks.

"For those of you wondering when Paramount is going to be announcing more details about their Blu-ray plans, the answer is soon. We've heard from a few replication and retail sources now that the studio has a number of new and catalog BD titles already in the works. We would expect to start seeing announcements in the next couple of weeks. On a related note, the studio has just pulled the HD-DVD listings off their press website (though the already announced titles are still in the database). So again we expect Blu-ray listings to be added soon, and we'll bring you all the official details as they come in"
