Figured it was about time Joss had his own thread. I've been a "Whedonite" for many a years now and I realise he has become much more well known through his recent success; The Avengers. His fan base has since grown in size and I thought that this would make a nice little place for old, and new, Whedonites to gather and discuss him and his works.
Feel free to post anything Whedon related! ![]() ![]() Last edited by Groge511; 10-11-2012 at 09:52 PM. |

I grew up with Buffy so it has a certain significance - probably one of the first things to scare me - but I really enjoy Firefly and, by extension, Serenity, because it's just so out-there and brilliant. Pretty much everything Whedon does is genius to a certain degree, but it just so happens that The Avengers is probably the most enjoyable and entertaining thing he's ever done.
So, to conclude ![]() 1. Firefly and Serenity 2. Buffy 3. The Avengers (but that would be top if the question were "what is the most entertaining thing Joss Whedon has done?") |

I love his shows Buffy, Angel & Dollhouse. Movies he's done, been involved with are that I love are Serenity(never could get into the show for some reason), Alien: Resurrection, Toy Story & The Avengers. I liked The Cabin in the Woods when I first seen it in theaters, but for some reason I didn't really like it after a second view on Blu-ray. :/ Also, the episodes of Roseanne he wrote are some of my favs from that series.

Cabin in the Woods is amazing. It instantly became one of my favorite movies of all-time, lol. I saw it three times in theaters and I've seen it another three times since I bought it on blu-ray. It's amazing.
Also, so glad Whedon is getting the attention he deserves after delivering a Hulk-smashing good time with The Avengers! |

Buffy.
The first episode I watched of Buffy was As You Were (S06E15) where [Show spoiler] That night I had two Buffy related nightmares. The one I remember better was an autograph signing. I had written a book that became popular. We were waiting to open the doors to let people in. A huge crowd stared at me through the glass. Suddenly they're faces start changing. I notice Buffy. She holds my gaze while the faces around her become monstrous. The other dream was Bloody Mary-ish. I'm in the bathroom and I see Buffy's face in the mirror. Then the mirror cracks into a million pieces. After that I forget about Buffy for a while. Until a friend tells me how much she loves the show and I pick up the third season. Anne (S03E01) ended up being a perfect (re)introduction. It shows Buffy as the hero she is. It was a different kind of hero. Yeah I'd seen good guys who were bad ass. That made me wish I had powers like them. I'd even seen characters who were quality role models (Goku, Ash, Sailor Moon). Buffy was affecting in a way no one else had been before. It was everything about her. The humor, the pain, the relationships, the love, the sacrifice. It was a show about vampires and demons yet her journey was more real to me than anything else I'd seen before. Cinema had been beyond my reach in another world. I could only peer through a dark glass into it's domain. Occasionally, I would catch a glimpse of it's countenance. It's voice would carry to my ear on a faint wind. Before I had time to hear it's words another wind quickly took the voice away. With Buffy the glass was shattered. Now Cinema was exposed to me and I to it. What I had briefly seen before was a pale reflection of it's truth. It's soul, bare and vulnerable in my presence, was pure knowledge, strength, and grace. As I was on the verge of falling down, to glorify it's presence, it gripped my hand, saying "Come. I have much to show you." Watching Buffy was like falling in love. The type of love that teaches you about your lover, yourself, and life as a whole. I've found many incredible movies and shows since Buffy. Ones I am very fond of. However, Buffy will always be special. It woke me up to a new world. It gave me a new world. I can only hope that the cast and crew realize that, at least for some people, the show meant everything. |

Buffy really is something special and shame on those who think it's just about vampires. It's not just the setting or the genre that makes it great. It's the characters that Joss creates. You believe them to be real and you really feel what they feel. There are many great shows but none of them have made me feel every single emotion I have in my body the same way Buffy did (and still does). |
