Default Blu-Ray Recorders

Ok, now that the war is over, when do we think we'll start seeing Blu-ray recorders (stand alone) players in the US or elsewhere? I know they are huge sellers in Japan, so it shouldn't be as bad as when the first dvd recorders hit the US market at $1200 bucks for the first units (price inflation from 1998 to 2008 difference accepted). Or might this be something the group might hold off on until the consumers adopt blu-ray more? I know there were recorders like the BDZ-V9 ($2,600) and the BDZ-V7 ($2200), but that was back in december of 06 and never see them at stores.

Two things:

1) Next time do a search because this topic has been discussed.

2) To answer your question, sometime later in the year. Sigma Designs guy told us that.

you can delete this thread, even though I did do a search thank you, it didn't answer my question... so please delete this. I found some details on the web I will add to the "other" posts.

I meant a search on this forum, not on other websites. And I think I pretty much answered your question with what I gathered from this forum.

Answered in my first reply.

That's the thinking. The Japanese have had HD for many years before Americans and they are more inclined to record HD either from broadcast or using their HD camcorders. The BD recorders were released there as an all-in-one unit. This has proven to be a good move as the market lapped it up. Even the HD DVD recorder enjoyed modest sales.

The American market is unlike the Japanese market. HD penetration is only half, if that at all. DVR penetration is slightly better but HD DVR is unheard of. Most people who own a HDTV thinks that they are watching a HD channel just because they own a HDTV. So releasing a BD DVR right now would not be a good move as consumers are not educated. Uneducated consumers translate to poor sales.

Those are for the Japanese market and won't be as compatible with the ATSC standards.

I did mean I searched here, but thanks for your input. Im just excited for the recorders, as I have gone through 3 stand alone DVD-R's (I record a lot of what I can't get in the store) and really want to move up to BD-R set tops for movies like Star Wars etc on HD cable channels.

But again, thanks for you info... sorry I missed a past thread. I "try" to read them all.
