No she didn't say hddvd, but she did make a point of saying they were in high def.

What a waste. Doesn't she or her production staff have a clue that hddvd is a dead format, and most audience members will never be able to use those free high def versions of StarTrek.

Did Toshiba buy her out a while back or something, or is someone on her production staff a complete red ant?
The more likely reason is she got them at a bargain price (or free) because it's a dead format.

I wonder how many people will put the disk in "upside down" and try to return it because it doesn't work?

Those shows like Oprah or Ellen or The View... they don't pay jack for the stuff they give away. If Oprah is seen giving away a digital camera to 150 audience members, the manufacturer's COST for those items are chump change compared to the RETAIL sales they'll get on tens of thousands of products sold, and all the publicity that goes along with it.

@all -- Oprah is the golden goose of endorsements--not necessarily because her viewers are "sheep" (that's a very juvenile, ridiculous thing to say), but because her fans relate with and thus emulate her. I might say that her more hardcore fans are "highly impressionable", but that's also because in most cases they don't expose themselves to an alternative.

That said, I hope the BDA contacts her with a memo letting her know she just handed out and promoted a product that was recently discontinued. She's very concerned about her reputation, and might act on it.

Meh. She supports HD DVD. Just another reason no one should watch her crappy show. But this episode was probably recorded a little bit before Toshiba quit HD DVD. Just a note.
