well bestbuy came and took my tv back on tuesday because it was too big and when i get my refund i am most likely going to get the new 2007 model lcd from LG. its the 42LC7D
has anyone heard any reviews on them. and if you have experience with LG lcd's post a comment on their quality. i know there are a lot of threads about this but i couldnt find my answer so here is the question. will i notice a difference in PQ if i am using a 720p/1080i flat pannel lcd rather than one thats 1080p. i will be sitting 6 or 7 feet from the tv and the screen size will either be 37 inches or 42 inches i havent decided which to buy yet. |

When you say the set was to big do you mean you owned a rear projector and you did not like the depth of the cabinet size? Recommend distance for a 70 inch 1080P screen is 10 feet away. Here is a link to a viewing distance calculator which will give you the ideal viewing distance. LG is on the bottom of my list. I prefer JVC, Sony, Pioneer, etc. http://www.myhometheater.homestead.com/viewingdistancecalculator.html#anchor_13194 |

The tv screen was just too big it was 56 inches and i was sitting 8 feet away. it was a rear projection tv
so i am going to get a 42 inch lcd flat pannel from LG. i didnt really understand that website you linked. i just wanted to know if you can tell the difference on a 1080p set vs a 720/1080i set on a 42 inch screen if you are sitting 7 feet away |

If you were seating 8 feet away and watching a 1080P BLU-RAY movie the 56 inch should have been fine. Maybe you were watching a lot of non HDTV TV from analog NTSC cable and the quality looked terrible on a 56 inch screen.
Some people that have good eye site can tell the difference between 1080P and 720P sets from 7 feet away. If you can afford to and you plan on seating 5 feet away I would go with 1080P. 1080P will be the standard on prerecorded HDTV movies for the next 10 years. 720P looks good but you will always be missing the best possible resolution. |

Here's another link for viewing distances. Not a calculator, just plain english, easy to understand.

Well one thing you have to take into consideration is the native resolution. I believe that there are 1080P sets that can accept a 1080p signal but still don't have 1080 lines of resolution. If both sets have 768 native resolution then you wouldn't likely see a difference. I think everyone is assuming your 720 had 768 and your 1080P has 1080 which is very likely the case. I would just make sure that's true if you're expecting to see a difference.

at about 6-7 feet on my 50 inch display, i notice a major difference between 720p and 1080i (no p on my set). i look at overall quality and depth, and 720p just doesn't cut it. backgrounds aren't as crip and clean. i'll notice every now and again and issue with fast motion on 1080i. however, i didn't notice it once on CR and that has plenty. i think it is more the broadcast than the resolution. every now and again, ill get a good 720p broadcast and it is fine. as always, it is a step up from SD.

Maybe that's when it's deinterlacing movement from true 1080 60i signals, instead of progressive 24fps ones like a movie because that's where you'd see more artifacts.
