Default Which set do you think is better?

Ok, it's time for me to upgrade my TV. Currently, I own a Mitsubishi 1080i 55" set. It's been great for these past five or so years, but it's time to upgrade.

The sets that I'm currently eyeballing are:

Mitsubishi WD-73733 1080p DLP HDTV
Samsung LN-T5781F 1080p LCD HDTV
Sony Bravia KDL-52W3000 1080p LCD

Are these decent tv's or, should I be looking at something else? The amount that I have to spend is $3,000 or so.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Why not consider plasma too? Panasonic plasma TVs are great and would be in your price range.

Id go with whatever your budget can fit. All 3 are fine displays, and you cant go wrong with any of them, but IMHO, I'd look at the Sony Bravia, W3000. Out of their LCD line W,V and S series, the "W" series is the flagship line followed by the "V" and than the "S" series. Or like my fellow poster said you could look at a plasma they are alittle more expensive than LCD's depending on the features. Panasonic and Pioneer plasmas are the best out there.

I am also in the market for a TV. If you lean towards Sony and have $3000, I would look at the 52" XBR4 which can be had for $2999. Gives you the advantage of 120HZ over the W3000 I believe.

Default Which TV?

I'd go with the Sony Bravia. The XBR line is the best of the Bravias. I've got the 40" Bravia XBR2 and it's sweet!!

I have the 71 series of the Samsung, and sure wouldn't mind having that LED technology fromt the 81 series... I think it's 500,000:1 contrast ratio. If that's within your budget, I'd go that route

The Samsung LN-T5781F 1080p LCD HDTV you listed is an $8000 TV! If you can get it on your $3000 budget, please share

I too have to guess on the Samsung for the LED and 120hz. I didn't look into the Mitsubishi so make sure it isn't subject to the rainbow effect.

Thanks to everyone for the helpful replies.

Jason, I think you're right, it was the 5281 ... just got excited typing earlier I guess.

I didn't even think of plasma sets because of the "burn in" problem, and, from what I've gathered, there's only a 5 year life span for plasmas.

Given the dollar limitations, which plasma set should I consider?

I would consider this one. They say Panasonics and Pioneers are pretty good about no burn in. If you want LCD I would do a Sony XBR or Samsung 71 or 81. All are great TVs.

There's a lot longer life span than 5 years on plasmas, especially quality ones like the Pannys and Pios! "Burn in" isn't much of an issue anymore either unless you were to leave it running on CNN all day long or something, and that can still be corrected more often than not. I love the Pioneer Kuros, but they are pricey and the Panasonic sets are freakin nice too! Of the three you're considering, I'd go with the Sony (+1 for the XBR!). Good luck with your decision!

You could check out either the Panasonics or the Pioneer tvs which are AWESOME tvs...as far as burn in you would have to try to get it...I have a plasma and play video games all the time and I haven't got burn in...that is more a thing of the past although it is possible very unlikely...if that is your concern with a plasma don't be...(just don't fall asleep during a movie and leave it in menu mode lol) And plasma have the same life span as LCDs...I personally prefer plasmas because of the black levels and the colors look much more realistic...

I wish people would stop worrying about burn in. Also where the heck do you get 5 years????? Well I still have my first plasma from about 5 years ago so I guess one day the thing isn't going to work I better get ready.

get the sony xbr4 52"

the 81 samsung series is 100,000 contrast not 500,000 and its also does not utilize their 120hz engine.

if u absolutely want a samsung get the 71 series, not the 81

but still i'd say get the xbr4
