Default Favorite Non-Godfather Film of the 1970s

The Godfather Parts 1 and 2 are my two favorite films of all time, and I suspect that the former would easily win a Best of the 1970s poll. Therefore I chose to leave both films off the list of poll choices. The remaining choices were culled from my own list of favorites, as well as purely iconic films of the era, though I had to eliminate some movies I love to narrow it down to a mere 25 choices. If your choice is missing, I apologize. Feel free to post about it.

Apocalypse Now. The Horror! The Horror!

The Deer Hunter, Star Wars, Dog Day Afternoon, Serpico, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, and The Taxi Driver were awesome too.

I picked Star Wars. But Apocalypse Now and many of the other movies listed were awesome as well. This was a tough poll because the 70's had some monster movies.

Yeah, it's really amazing when you list 25+ movies from a ten-year period and find out you're still leaving off plenty of bona fide classics.

And I didn't even bother tackling the foreign films from that era.

While Apocalypse Now probably wouldn't even make my top 10 of the '70s, I have purposefully not bought it this past year in the hopes that it will soon come out on Blu-Ray. Anything shot by Storaro deserves the hi-def treatment.

Perhaps later I'll list my own Top 20 of the 1970s. I'd have to think about it awhile.

It should also be noted that I intentionally excluded documentaries, concert films, and foreign-language movies (which I mentioned earlier).

You need to qualify that list with the word "American" (as in "American film".

I've done an extensive study of European cinema of the 60's and 70's, and the list of good and great films from that era is too long to even start here. However, my "favorites" are not on your list, though there are many good and great films there.

OK I'll submit a "favorite" American film (one of several favorites) from the 70's (1976 to be exact).
The Front
directed by Martin Ritt
screenplay by Walter Bernstein

I would have left that off too, but I didn't even think of it until I was nearly done creating the poll.

And I added certain lesser-celebrated films like Breaking Away and McCabe & Mrs. Miller because they're personal favorites.
