I think they can leave them a little loose. I was browsing the electronics section the other day and saw several boxes of landline phones and portable hard-drives with the spider-wrap, and it was loose enough where it didn't hug the packaging and damage it, yet you couldn't take it off without the proper tool.

Dang the big boxsets like Friends collection, and other boxsets that size were all strangled. All the Legacy steels were in the coffins as well but I think they won't damage them right.

I've seen them in a new coffin where there's no room to slide around. I say new because I've always seen the big ones.

Those are not new those are the security cases that are used for smaller items such as videogames and blus without slips(and some with slips) unless you are referring to some type of other case that target uses.

Yeah, the small coffins have been around for a long time. I remember seeing a whole bunch of The Avengers 3D with ruined slipcovers.

I actually been seeing more of the larger coffins around lately; big enough for TV sets and larger BDs with slips. I got the Girls exclusive in one today; perfect condition.

Spider-wrap still abounds on larger items though.

Something that I hear from most CSR is they are needed to prevent theft. If that is the case, why not do the same revision they did with games. There you have one game in a jewel case and the rest locked up. Honestly, most folks steal DVD's or other things that don't have the EAS tags. Back in my day when I'd run into folks simply stole the disc and left the packaging. Most of the time this was in Wal Mart though.

Went to Target today and all of the Bourne Steelbooks are ruined. The plastic coffins are too small and when closed they actually dent the tops.

I talked to a guy about it and he is going to talk to the department and pass along the information. Will it happen or help probably not but at least he knows that customers are starting to get pissed about them ruining product.

Has anyone contacted someone at Corporate at all?

I take the surveys and e-mail Corporate every so often to complain about the coffins and the spiderwraps.

I guess I'll start emailing them more as well. I was doing it once a month but I'm going to start doing it once a week or at least twice a month.

This is what I write when I take the survey:

Please stop using plastic coffins that are too small for your Blu-rays and DVDs. Please stop using spiderwraps that damage and crush Blu-rays and DVDs. It makes no sense for you to destroy your merchandise. You lose a lot of sales that way.

I feel bad for any slipcovers collectors, as the coffins seem to absolutely mangle the slips on top and bottom.

These seem more like a purchase deterrent than a theft deterrent, because even the most casual movie buyer prob. wouldn't appreciate a collector's edition box being all dented up.

So glad Best Buys in my area don't do this regularly. I've only seen a few spider coffins around movies.....ironically, it's always something HUGE which would be the hardest to steal LOL.

Most people don't care at all about slips so this doesn't effect them. Target won't change because creepy collectors of cardboard are upset.

Probably so. I've seen people in line ahead of me hand the slipcover to the cashier to throw away after it's been removed from the plastic coffin.

haha creepy.

It's not about the slips though. It's about a company that refuses to take action when customers have complained numerous times about damaged product.

How would one feel if you went to a grocery store to buy food and all the packages were open? Or if you went to buy a car and it had been keyed on the doors? Granted that is extreme but I'm trying to make a point. When a company is not training its employees and deliberately destroying its own product why should we as a consumer put up with it? We shouldn't and we should continue letting Target know how we feel till the decided to change their policy. Will they do it? Probably not but it does not hurt to try.

I'm not a slipcover nut, but I do like getting them when they are included with new releases. If so, I'd prefer them not to be bent/torn/mangled by inferior security practices.

I'll echo again the analogy of a scratched-up paint job on a new car.

Exactly, great points made. Nothing more that I can add.

So you would give this as a present to a friend?

I was at Target this morning. I started down the first aisle of the movie section, and it took less than 5 seconds to find some mangled slips (pictures don't do them justice):

[Show spoiler]

I wonder if Target corporate offices even realize that their security efforts are damaging product resulting in fewer sales? I'm guessing that after Target destroys its own inventory they simply return the damaged product back to the distributor.
