Got my service number and was told that my UPS box was on the way to send the unit in to be replaced (got the unit in November). Well, they over-nighted the box to me. I took the box then to the UPS store on friday morning. Just got confirmation from UPS and Sony that my new unit is being delivered tomorrow (Thursday). That is just over a week turn-around!

That is customer service!!
I was wondering what type of things you have to send in with the ps3 along. Sorry i mine just died last night, i'm getting the box shipped to me already by sony, but i can't find the receipt. I do have my credit card post though, it doesn't specifically say i bought the ps3, but there is a charge there along with the generic hdmi cable...so i'm wondering what if thats going to pose a problem....i would appreciate any input on this....thanks in advance.

I read in a VG mag that the PS3 failure rate is about .02%. The 360 failure rate is 1 in 3! Then, I was talking to a guy at GameStop and he said "No, it's about 2 in 3". Holy Hell!

When my first ps3 gave me issues, I didnt have my receipt either. All I had was a debit card statement. I highlighted the transaction, and thats all they needed. They wont get overly strict about the sum either, im sure they'll assume any amount above the price will be due to games/accessories.

They will send you a box with instructions. But it's basically, package the PS3 with the controller and cables(network/video) and a copy of the receipt (I think the credit card statement will work just make sure you highlight it).

Actually you can. Before your warranty expires, go in and exchange your unit for a new one, even if nothing is wrong, then buy a warranty on that new one.

My PS3 has been giving me issues...
GH3 & Rock Band have both had the video freeze and skip, Uncharted had audio sync issues like CRAZY, and Heavenly Sword...well, it had audio AND video sync issues. The internet browser has frozen the system a number of times as well.
I'm using a new hard drive now but the troubles are the same. I don' know if the original hard drive would work any better, as I never even turned the system on without swapping out the drive with a 160gb. I've had the system since...a month after launch.
Anyone know the approx. cost to fix it since I assume the warranty was only a year? It is a 20gb model so I'd rather not have to track down another one (or a 60gb) just so I can play my PS2 games. PS2 games and Blu Ray playback have been spot-on so it seems only related to the internet browser and PS3 games...
