Default the orange box, worth it or not?

Im looking for a new game to buy,and i was thinking about getting this game. but then i rememberd the review's and people saying it not as good as the 360 version, and the framerate is horrible. can someone who has the game tell me if its still a good game, and how bad exactly is the framerate problem? im getting bored of playing call of duty4, and need a new gaming fix.

Yes, worth it! The only game I like is Portal.

The framerate problems are really only in Episode 2 of Half Life 2. The rest of it is fine. Definitely worth it.

I have the Orange Box and it's a fantastic value for your money and the framerate issues aren't as horrible as some would say

interesting. I would have bought the game but was hesitant because of the bad port. Plus there are so many games coming out this year. I think i'm gonna save my money.

I heard things about framerate issues as well, but I went out and bought it anyway.
Not a single bit of a "Framerate Issue" is in the entire game. It must have just been 360 fanboys spreading lies. Gotta love those guys.

Portal was fun. Team Fortress wasnt bad either.

Buy it for Portal. Awsome game...

But yeah. Theres no framerate issues. Ignore those complaints, and never trust gamespot for reviews.

No framerate and its possibly got one of the longest lifespans on a game currently out. Considering its the same price as any other PS3 game its VFM. TF2 is best IMO.

I was hesitant because of the bad reviews too, but I thought the value couldn't be beaten so I bought it. I didn't have too much trouble until I came to the swamp levels...I definitely have framerate issues and it was unplayable at certain points. Portal is really fun, but it's only 19? stages...please correct if I'm wrong...I forgot. Team fortress would have been awesome, but it takes awhile to jump into the games. I would have still kept it if those were the only problems I had, but it seemed that the game gave me "old school FPS" headaches. I don't know if you know what I'm talking about or if you've dealt with it yourself, but I used to play a lot of Wolfenstein, Doom, and pretty much any FPS I could play in the beginning, but for whatever reasons the games started giving me headaches. Newer shooters don't, but this one did. Sucked too because I hadn't even beaten one of the games yet. Sheer positive numbers in this thread say go for it, but what about Army of Two? Or can it only be FPS?

The headaches your talking about is common for alot of people who play fps. my freind doesin't even bother with anymore, i think it has to do with the fast motion of the camera.

Yeah, my brother-in-law gets them too. I'm glad I can play a majority of the new titles though.

This right now is the best deal in video games. I had a total of three problems with the PS3 version. The first was the load times, horrible no way around it.
I love Half Life 2 so much it did not bother me. The second was when you get squads halfway into the game. This is the one time I experienced a framerate drop. Due to your squad bunching up in tight areas. The third was in Episode one when I went into one of the resistance's buildings. I was walking along and the building was disappearing and it was not possible to see where I was going.
There were also two occasions when i went to load games and it took me to the XMB. Otherwise it is almost perfect, minus the load times.

It is also worth checking out the original Half Life if you have not already. They sell the PS2 version on Amazon for good prices. That is also a good deal since it comes with two games, Half-Life and an interwoven co-op story called Decay.

The framerate issues are pure nonsense, created by gaming sites with hidden agendas.

Buy it, play it and you you will see that whilst there are a few dips in the framerate in HL2 Ep2, they are no worse than the frame dips in the 360 version.

The worst offending site, is GameTrailers, as they faked framrate problems by quicksaving the game whilst playing it.

The load times are annoying sometimes, but again no worse than the 360 version.

I get those headaches from playing platformers. I couldn't go for more than 5 minutes at a time playing the Ratchet and Clank demo before I had to stop.

I have a question for those of you who have completed the Orange Box version of HL2 and Episodes1 & 2. Is there any benefit to completing HL2 in Orange Box before beginning Episode 1? Do weapons or anything carry forward in the save file, or does it just start from scratch?

I've previously completed the PC version of HL2, but I haven't played Episodes 1 or 2 yet. Should I complete HL2 again before tackling the episodes?

its a continuing story, so if you want to understand how and why stuff is happening in the episodes you should probably finish HL2 first.

You lose all your guns on the last chapter of HL2, which is why you have no guns in Episode 1 minus your gravity gun.

You can do it, but for story contingency you might want to beat HL2 first...

Then why did he ask about the weapons.. at the end of the game you lose all your weapons.. so that made me think its been awhile for him...

Okay just jump into the episodes then..

They fixed the frame rate issue of the past it had to do with a memory leak that they found and fixed. That can happen in level design easily sometimes holes in the universe can cause this they don't have to be big they could 1pixel by 1pixel but a light ray could bounce out and then starts calculating out of universe...

Very good collection of games a must for anyone who likes a story with there fps...

OH and make sure to check out the dev commentary very interesting stuff they packed in there.
