Thought this might help someone. I have my home theatre setup in a finished basement. I really like it, but recently when I upgraded to 7.1 sound, I really had a tough time finding speakers that I could ceiling mount. The ceiling height is only about 7 1/2' high so I needed speakers that didn't hang down too far.
I finally found these Bose 161's. They were only 142 bucks(on sale) for the pair and that included mounting brackets. They work great for a ceiling mount application and sound good also. I am not connected with Bose in any way and will not make a penny off of this. I just thought there are probably others might be in the same situation as me. ![]() |

I will compliment Bose on one thing though. The included speaker mounts are very well designed and allow a lot of flexibility in installation. For someone looking for rears that need to be ceiling mounted and are on a budget(as I am), these are great. I read a lot of reviews on these speakers before I bought them and most reviewer's gave them high marks. |

Looks good and I commend you on your installation job.
But one question. You couldnt find any speakers that you could mount? I have a set of Sony's (I have no idea what kind, as my speakers were free and I will be replacing them next...) and all I did was buy a mounting bracket from Target and they fit perfect. |

These Bose 161's were the only speakers I could find that looked decent while "hugging" the ceiling, cause head clearance was an issue. There may be other speakers out there that will work also, but I couldn't find them. |

I've got a brand new pair of Bose 161s for my rear surrounds as well, but I haven't mounted them to the ceiling yet. I think I'll either sell them or wait until I move out of this apartment to install them since I'm doing fine with a 5.1 set up, and it's not like a have a library full of 7.1 movies anyway. Looks good though.
One thing I'll add about my Bose set up, when using the Yamaha DSP fields (any of the Classical settings), these speakers really sing when listening to classical music and opera. I know I'll get totally ragged on for saying so, but I'm not too concerned with the haters. These speakers do the job perfectly for my very modest space. When I finally move back into a house I'll throw these speakers in the master bedroom or the kid's room and get myself more "manly" speakers. Besides, I need something that can handle my vast hip hop collection with such power beats from renowned producers like Dr. Dre and the DJ Premier. ![]() Last edited by Blu Falcon; 03-08-2008 at 07:11 PM. |
