Default Bit of a Dilema

Ok, I just got my Sony KDL-46XBR4 TV, and at the moment we have comcast internet, phone and Cable. We want to switch to Direct TV, but the problem is what do we do for the internet and phone. I know you can get a direct tv and bell south deal which includes the phone and DSL, but where my computer is located now, doesn't have a phone jack for the DSL. What would be the best option for me. I definately want to get Direct TV, but because of the lack of phone jacks near my computer this could be a problem.

Wireless router..... You gotta get the 2-Wire or whatever their brand is, that's what I had to do.... We had an OLD version, that was giving us issues, so I just went to BB and got a new one for $80 and all problems solved.... of course I only use a laptop that came with a wireless card.... if you don't have a wireless card in your PC, you may need one, but those should be pretty cheap too.

That is a minor problem. Talk to the phone company in your area that provides DSL service and they will do the wiring. They did it in my house. It is a simple procedure and they did not even charge me for it. I have DirecTV and ATT/Yahoo DSL.

I dont understand this. I'm not the best with electronics. I have a Linksys wireless router. SO what do I do exactly.

So will bellsouth route my wire to the phone jack for free of charge? Do you know if they hide it in the walls or something and not just on the floor.

Oh so they will install an actual phone jack for me, so I don't have to wire the wire all the way upstairs?

Should I email them or call them to tell them what I would like and where I would like the phone jack before they come and install the phone jack?

You could keep your cable for internet, and just get the Dish for TV. I like cable internet better than DSL anyway, and this is the way I plan on doing it.

Correct, you can separate the offerings.
Now what you might want to check is if you wouldn't get a nice discount for getting everything from Direc TV (I know we are getting a substantial discount for having everything at Cox).
If that is the case and you have to get DSL, they can take care of the wiring for you.
someone sugested WiFi.
That is fine if you do not do online gaming. If you do, trust me, you need your comp. to be wired to the router

We are getting direct tv from a preferred provider so it's from a different company than bellsouth, so I can't bundle the packages. I think i'll just get the internet and phone bundle from bellsouth and pay extra for the extra phone jack.

It sucks that DirectTV is HD-lite. Verizon FiOS FTW!

I doubt the phone company will install a new jack and run wire for free.

With a wireless router you can have the router wherever the existing jack is and you do not need an ethernet cable to the computer. I have DSL with a wireless router that is a different location than the computer. Does your computer have a wireless card in it? That is all you need, the wireless router and wireless card in the computer.

I have TDS metrocom for phone/DSL/dishnetwork service, they bundle it all in one bill and I actually save $5 off what my bill used to be with the satellite separate.
