Default Best Buy builds bigger space for Blu-ray

Video Business News keeps the good news coming. Maybe Susan A. drank the Blu Kool Aid. It is going to be a great year, and I am really looking foward to the increased promotion in the Summer.

Best Buy builds bigger space for Blu-ray

By Susanne Ault -- Video Business, 3/14/2008

MARCH 14 | Best Buy is moving out the old to make room for the new, as Blu-ray Disc becomes a larger merchandising focus.

Some of the chain’s stores are using new security packaging for all single and box set BD software, affixing clear plastic casing over the original disc case.

At my local BBy, all the video games.. or rather... all the popular title video games are no longer in the shelves. They only have an empty case with a bad photocopy of the cover of the game in it and a note that says you can buy it at the front desk.
I guess more and more kids are stealing games and movies so they are being forced to move up the security.

They've done it ay my store too with the top selling games. I don't even understand how this is logical, given the amount of security already on the cases. I would suggest they re-evaluate their inventory control tag scheme and figure out why it is failing.

Product packaging is part of the promotional value. Replacing game packages with shoddy b&w photocopies makes me a lot less likely to take a closer look, which, in turn, means I'm less likely to buy it on impulse. There is a reason why game devs go the extra mile to make pretty covers with vibrant colours to begin with...it sells games.

And on that note... I might drop a suggestion to the manager next time I'm in the store

Wal-Mart has had all game software locked in cases for quite some time. The stores in my city have also moved all Blu-ray Discs and a number of new release DVDs into locked cases too.

I bought No Country For Old Men on BD this Tuesday at Wal-Mart. I had the sales clerk take the disc out of the case for me and price check it. I still had other shopping to do and didn't want to ring up that disc yet. So the clerk took it down to the customer service counter. They held the disc there until I was at the register paying for other stuff.

I guess we have to thank all the scumbag, shoplifting thieves out there for ruining our conveniences with their worthless criminal activities.

Yep. My Walmart has all Blurays locked up, and you have to pay for them there in the electronics department now.

Mine also has those big beeper discs tied to them ... and the ties dig into the corners of the case and ruin it.

Plastic casing is far better than the lockup that walmart does. Best Buy is usually a big store and is fairly easy to find a corner or section in which to cut open movies or whatever else and take them. Much harder to do so with a plastic case (unless you have the tool used to open them).

I work in Best Buy and have seen many opened cases in hidden and dark areas.

I went to the best buy by me, and asked if I could reserve enchanted and brought the paper and everything.

"I need to reserve the blu ray edition"

Cashier : Whats blu ray?

I just left.

Don't be too hard. I'm just pleased to hear that Susanne has finally found employment matched to her skills and knowledge.
