Default PS3: Prefer 40 GB, 60 GB, or 80 GB

I wanted to get your thoughts on which PS3 model you prefer. I have the 60 GB and just got a new 40 GB. I like that the 60 GB has 4 USB ports, memory card readers, and is backwards compatible. However, the fan on the 40 GB is silent, and it actually makes me think I like my new 40 GB more.

I ask because I'm wondering if people are really concerned with the backwards compatibility more than the fan noise. If someone is, I'm considering doing a trade between for my 60 GB for a newer 40 GB. If you're really interested, PM me, and we can talk...

*Mods - not sure if this is supposed to be in the PS3 section or Trading section. Kind of goes either way. Sorry about that...

The 60 gig has EVERYTHING thats ever been done to the PS3 system. Even the 80 gig cant play EVERY PS2 game, but most. Plus it has the losest failure rate which is low on any of them actually just lowest on 60gig.

I have a 60 and a 40.

The 60 is mostly used for gaming in our game room, while, the 40 is mostly used for watching Blu-rays in our living room.

I prefer the 40 just because it is so much more quiet than the 60, but, without the 60 I can't play my Fatal Frame, Silent Hill, and God of War collection...

kind of a catch 22 for me...so, I didn't vote.

The SUPPOSED fan noise of the 60GB version of the system should never be a deterrant. After all, when I watch a movie, the volume on my $3000 sound system is set to a point where I couldn't hear someone talking in the chair next to me... let alone a tiny hum 10 feet away!!!

if you ever get the chance to compare a 40 next to a 60, then, you would understand what people are talking about.

Its extremely noticable

I require my PS2 backwards compatability. Without it, I would not have boughten a PS3.

i love my 60g it has everything you need. Also if you are into home entertainment who cares how quite or loud the fan is i have never ever noticed the sound of my 60g the volume of my speakers always drowns it out

FYI..our 80GB is pretty well the same as the 40GB in terms of fan noise - very little. The blu-ray loading mechanism sounds smoother as well. They have both been running Folding for long stretches with little difference in fan levels. Not sure if some later 80GB received smaller chips like the 40GB or if it's for some other reason but that's been my xp.

In comparison... the 60GB fan will cycle off/on to the top fan level while Folding. I'd personally go for an 80GB to get the extra USB, memory cards, disk space and BC. The 40GB we got was strictly aimed at the bedroom for movies so they weren't needed.

I can see why people like their 60GB, but I had a USB hub, a SACD player, a PS2 and a big hard drive already, so I figured I'd go for the cheap-ass option. >>

Can't even see this as close. 60GB rules...has everything you need, and more.

Plus I would never admit I overpaid for capabilities...

What I really want is a new 60 GB PS3 with the reduced chip sizes of the 40 GB model. I've been surprised Sony hasn't released some super edition yet like Microsoft has done with the Xbox 360.

Well, I have a launch 60gb and a) have never had a problem out of it b) have never noticed any fan noise except for the SHORT time i had it semi-enclosed until i got my new stand c) leave it folding pretty much 24/7 unless I am playing on it d) have played a CRAPLOAD of PS2 titles since i got my PS3. Basically the BC was a huge selling point to me for the system...Bluray was more of an afterthought. I would be heartbroken if my 60gb died and i couldn't find another to replace it. Me likey da 60!
