Default Confirmed: MGS4 is 50GB Blu-ray.

http://www.ripten.com/2008/03/14/mgs...-50gb-blu-ray/

"Many presumed that Kojima decided to go with a 25gb Blu-ray disc to save on costs, but it was yesterday revealed in a Konami retailers meeting that the game is the biggest of the series, and will be presented on a 50GB disc"

Well considering there are not many PS3 games I've been able to get really into I can't wait for this one. I've owned all the other previous incarnations.

Good news. This, I think, is the first game to really need the BD50 so far.

This kind of plays into my biggest fear about this game. Kojima is already overkill on stopping gameplay to watch cg scenes. With 50 gigs, and this supposedly being the last in the series, it'll be interesting to see if this turns into an interactive movie rather than a cinematic game.

None of the MGS games have used CG. :|

Apparently the nay-sayers (mostly disgruntled Xbox fans) are arguing that the extra space is either due to Uncompressed audio (which wouldn't be a problem to me) and/or the same hi-res textures being put in several different places on the discs, repeated to avoid long access Read times.
This last argument seems preposterous to me, given that -all- PS3s have a hard drive (contrarily to the Xbox lineup), it makes much more sense to actually write the hi-res textures that are often used on the hard drive.

/shrug.

I have big hopes for MGS 4 to start the big time whoopin season on the Xbox, but tbh WipEout HD and FFXIII are the titles I wait for the most (along with White Knight and other Jap. RPGs). Not a big console gamer either btw (mostly PC), but it'd be silly not to delve in quality experiences

Anyone who don't like in-game cut scene, shouldn't play MGS. Period, it's that simple.

Yeah, except for those of us that like the Metal Gear series and have played it since the original. I just want a cinematic game not a movie that stops to let you play for 5 minutes before the next movie starts. We don't even know if that's the case, it's just my concern since it's requiring so much space and because it's the last in the series.

Anyway, this is pretty awesome. Might drive the price of some Blu Ray movies around its release though, I don't think there are that many factories capable of pressing BD50s. Of course I have no source for that, its just what I've heard. Feel free to correct me if someone finds a source for this.

I don't care if it takes 25 gig, 50 gig, or even 100 gig. To me MGS is MGS, I trust Kojima enough to think he'll balance MGS4 well between gameplay and cut-scene. Just like all the previous MGS.

I'm oddly enough more excited to hear what this secret game is outside of Metal Gear will be. Don't get me wrong I love MGS, but something new from a master like Kojima would be refreshing. I say that now, but when I get the game I'm sure my mind will change
