HDMI to analog converter? - Blu-ray Forum

Does anyone know if there is an HDMI-to-analog converter on the market, so PS3 users w/out an HDMI receiver can utilize the lossless audio track? I don't suspect so, but thought i would ask.

AFAIK, one does not exsist.

It doesn't exisy because of copy protection. If anyone had such a device, it would be illegal. However, in terms of picture only, early last year, PureLink made a DVI to VGA adaptor that was HDCP compliant and sold it until the HDCP boys freaked out. If you can find one of those, you can take the HDMI to DVI cable into the box, then a VGA cable into your display and it'll work. The advantage to the box was that it added H&V synch to the computer based VGA connection. I have one... works perfectly even through a HDMI switcher. As for audio... well, that's a different ball game.

I thought the copyright protection would keep any digital-to-analog converter from being made.

It does now! But PureLink was making that box with HDCP up until the HDCP police jumped on them threatening a lawsuit so the box is still available but now it doesn't have the HDCP in it. It's called DC-DA1. Search something like e-bay, you never know... if you find one, ask the seller if it's HDCP compliant.

No sweat but remember, this thing is just for video - it won't pass the higher bit audio so it might be a moot issue for you.

Yea, it was, I've got HDMI for the TV, but I was hoping for analog audio outs. Thanks anyways.
