Default PS3 Question

So I had a regular Blu-ray player for a year but then I just got a PS3. I have a media server on my computer so I can download TV shows that aren't on DVD and stream them to my set. My question is: Does anyone know how I can hook up the PS3 to a VCR so I can record whatever is on the PS3 (in this case, the AVI files) to a VHS tape for a less technically enabled friend?

Standard A/V cables (red, yellow, white)?

"VHS?" Is this a new form of Blu Ray? what does this "VHS" stand for? Has the sun god blessed us with this new form?

It has 10x better quality than Blu. They last just as long to. Shame on you for not hearing about this. This is something we should all be really concerned about.

Yes, but I believe you would have to choose the AV slot instead of the HDMI slot to output video via RCA/Phonos/SCART. Plug the cables from the PS3 into the input of the VCR, select your external input on your VCR and press record, you should be good to go.

Thank you RichieB1971. To all you other guys I'm not going to swear or call names or anything but honestly, give me some slack. I am the only one of my friends who can afford HDTV, a 16:9 set, a DVR, PS3, etc... with the exception of one, who just was able to buy a 16:9 TV in December after 2 and 1/2 years of saving. It is HALF the size of mine. Oh yeah and I'm in major debt buying all this stuff too

Sally, the one I want to record for, still uses a regular 4:3 TV and I just explained why she should always hold out for widescreen DVDs. She used to not care at all what ratio it was in. That took me 3 years. She also was recently fired so I don't think $2000 of Home Entertainment is in her near future.

I'm with you guys on wishing my friends could be caught up, and with the exception of Sally, so do they, but sometimes its just not in the budget for people. I have them over as often as I can for HD goodness though!

Personally, I only keep a VCR to record for people and for things I have that aren't on DVD. At the moment I don't even have sound running from it. I do find i easier to use in those circumstances than burning DVDs which costs money

I'm assuming these friends of yours do not even have computers. If that's the case, getting them cheap DVD players from Walmart is the answer, if you can afford it. Then whenever you want to copy what you have legally, you can just burn it on DVD. One DVD master, multiple copies. And those discs are relatively cheap nowadays. Also, time is money, and your time is money. Disc replication is faster than recording on VHS.

Do you have an A/V surround receiver in your setup? If so, you should be able to route the PS3 and VCR through the receiver, so you don't have to fumble with wires all the time. Receivers have a VCR/DVR mode allowing signal pass through for recording.

FYI, it's hard to give a serious recommendation without knowing your actual setup.

My PS3 has Blu-ray playback issues as well. It's connected directly via HDMI. Game and menus are fine, but DVDs and Blu-ray Disc screens are purple where they should be black. Any ideas?

Does your TV have RCA outputs for video/audio?
If it does you can just run those to your VCR.

I run the composite cables out of my cable box to my VCR so I can transfer DVR recordings to VCR for my mom.

I found it. I had to set some of the blu-ray/dvd settings manually instead of leaving them on automatic.
