Anyway, I just wanted to let ya'll know that Disney has begun to do that Sony thing where the icon of the movie shows up on the PS3, rather than the good ol' Blu disc. |

Sorry for the double post! Anyway, I just got done watching it and it was as fun as watching it the first time in theaters. Long ago, I said a movie like this would make an average BD release because it seemed to me the live-action wouldn't really benefit, but damn was I wrong. Details are greatly rendered here (I actually paused to count the stitches in the embroidery work on Nathaniel's shirt) and colors are vibrant, even if the palette is slightly pastel. Notable are the sparklies in the movie (and this movie does have a lot of glitter); each particle is bright and magical and would look great on the Kuro set. Contrast is a little high on this movie, but what Disney movie doesn't have that problem (Game Plan, all 3 POTC)? They seem to compete with Lionsgate on trying to get away with the highest contrast without blowing details. Although Disney has been consistent in PQ, they should strive to be like WB and Fox and even their own Touchstone, all 3 usually giving their biggest movies balanced contrasts.
As for sound, the mix is well-done. Enchanted is the type of movie that incorporates all sorts of soundscapes, from that of a romantic comedy to a musical to an action movie. The musical numbers transition very well into dialogue; neither ever sound like two different sound sources like, say, High School Musical 2. The rear speakers are well-used and certain scenes like the raining billboard are very ambient. Panning is good, and one distinguished part is when dragon Narissa is laughing atop the buildings. Disney provides a consistent A-grade soundtrack, and the fact that the lossless track is TrueHD should not even be taken into account (unless your system can in no way play it, of course). Slightly off topic: For some reason, I can always tell if a mix is Disney; they have a signature sound to their soundtracks, but I don't really know what it is specfically. Maybe I'm just crazy. I give Enchanted 5 stars for the movie itself, and 4.5 stars for video and 5 for audio. |

Enchanted Disney – PG Enchanted is a classically spellbinding Disney fairy tale that will leave you …. Enchanted! Starring Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey (Dr. McDreamy), James Marsden (Hairspray, X-Men) and Susan Sarandon, Enchanted takes us on a journey from the perfect happily ever after fantasy land of Andalasia to the not so perfect harsh reality of New York City. Enchanted begins in the magical realm of Andalasia in typical Disney revelry as Giselle (Adams) opens in song about finding her prince and one true love. Giselle quickly becomes a damsel in distress and is rescued by the valiantly dashing and daring Prince Edward (Marsden). They fall in love and decide to marry at once. Not wanting to have her throne removed from under her, Prince Edward’s stepmother, the evil Queen Narissa (Sarandon), banishes Giselle from Andalasia and magically transports her across time, space and reality to …. present day New York City. Lost, confused and completely out of time and space, Giselle is once again rescued, this time by divorce attorney Robert Phillip (Dempsey) and his daughter Morgan. Edward dashes off to find his future bride, followed by his loyal servant, who happens to be the Queen’s henchman, Nathaniel (Timothy Spell). Also along for the ride, is Giselle’s best friend Pip, a chatter bug chipmunk who can’t seem talk in the real world. Will true love prevail, will our destined lovers find their happily ever after, will Pip ever get anyone to understand him? Hey, it’s a Disney movie. Enchanted is a great film no matter how old you are, which will leave you with a warm feeling in your heart and a tear in your eye. There are plenty of songs, laughs and clichéd moments along this fun and fantastic ride. Disney has successfully fused timeless classics like Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White, with the more modern classics like Beauty and the Beast and the Little Mermaid to create a masterpiece that transcends both animated and live action film. Amy Adams does a perfect job of bringing an animated princess to life. She is sweet, innocent, beautiful, and has an incredible signing voice. Forever will Giselle be remembered along side the great Disney princesses of old. Patrick Dempsey shows the world again that he deserving of the title McDreamy. James Marsden and Timothy Spell (Peter Pettigrew in the Harry Potter films) are superb as Prince Edward and the evil henchman Nathaniel. Susan Sarandon nails the evil stepmother routine with bravado and the arrogance of an evil Queen. All of the characters are true to Disney archetypes. While Enchanted sets out to be a Disney fairy tale movie, it does not take itself too seriously and has a lot of fun with scenes we have all seen in the past. Enchanted is an experience not to be missed. If you area fan of classic Disney then this is a movie you will want to run out and buy right away. Even if you’re not a Disney fanatic this is a must see movie for anyone who ever in their life dreamed of a happily ever after! 4.5 out of 5 stars |
