Of course. Thankfully Sony gives its customers the CHOICE to purchase said deep color enabled monitor.

No one can see or display billions of colors at once as far as I know. The usefullness of more colors and greater color depth comes when the colors are processed/scaled: more precision means less floating point error, smoother gradients, etc. Its the same reason why graphics went to 32bit color when 16bit color can represent more discrete colors than your eye can discern.

The Elite doesn't have a BluRay player?!? Microsoft isn't selling a movie player-they're selling a gaming system! You guys throw out these BluRay specs that the 360 doesn't have-WHO CARES!!! I don't see you guys throwing out the Wii's specs!!! They're going after completely different crowds! Microsoft is going for the gamer, Nintendo is going for the family, and Sony is going for the consumer to buy some BluRays. I own all 3 and the VIDEO GAME system I am least impressed with is the PS3 (surprise-it's my BluRay player). What is Sony going to get me?-Gran Turismo 17!? If you can't tell I'm a gamer-not an,"I need the clearest picture that my eye can't detect anyway" type guy. And don't just bash me because I'm bashing the PS3-I'd bash the others if I felt like trading them in within the first week I bought them.

Actually Albert (the Microsoft VP who is responsible for 360 Elite) stated on Major Nelson's podcast that the Elite is targeted at "the avsforum crowd".

Since both units are going after the same customer a direct comparison certainly warranted.

Listen to it for yourself here:

But the Elite fails in nearly every way if it is targeted at the AV crowd. All the Elite adds to the 360 is HDMI, and then only the video element.

It's all pointless MS spin. As usual.

I really like this forum. When the fanboys start their spin, there are always members with facts who can shut them up.

It's usually easy to pick them out. They don't actually talk about what they viewed on their player or talk about blu-ray. Usually they talk about how they have both and then only talk about the 360.

We only usually talk about the 360 because this is the gaming section of the blu-ray forum, and in my opinion, the 360 is a better gaming platform RIGHT NOW. I'm sure that won't be the case in a year from now. I will support both systems. I have 40 blu-ray movies, but only 3 PS3 games. I'm with Tobythetitan.

I might buy the Elite because I just want the system for the games and I wanted an HDMI on that bugger - that's why I never bought one before but as for the HD-DVD drive... not a chance. I've always had both systems so I can have the best of both worlds in terms of games. Dunno where the Hell I'll put the Elite but I'll find a spot. Although, I think I'll wait a couple of months to see what issues pop up on the new unit which would be typical of Microsoft products...

I strongly disagree and feel that the so called "Elite" will be a huge failure, yes I only have a PS3 and have NO intention of even considering looking at a Microsoft product. The biggest flaw in the XBOX was not jumping on the BluRay bandwagon, I hate HD but if Microsoft wanted to come close to PS3 they would have included an internal Player and think it is hilarious that XBOX ridiculed PS3 for being to expensive when now if you but the "Elite" and the Ad-on it will cost you more money to invest in a dying market, and they knew that, PS3 is far superior and I dont think we will have to wait a year to find that out, If you want a gaming system but regular XBOX at a cheap price if you want to be a part of "The Future of Entertainment" buy a PS3 and believe me you will not have a single regret.

It's an easy decision. I laugh everytime I hear that piece of crap referred to as "Elite"

I think the reason poeple who have both and then only talk about the 360 is because 90% of the poeple on here only talk about PS3 and then some of them only bash the 360.

I happen to agree with tobythetitan and kiddtigger.

This is what I think.

Over all the PS3 is a great machine. For me, It’s a great Blu-ray player. I have 23 Blu-ray movies, with 30 more on my list to buy.
As a game system, it has the potential to be a great game system, currently it's just ok. This is because there is a lack of games I’m interested in. I currently only have 1 game. I might buy RFOM, but I'm going to go play it at my friends first. People counter my claim that there are more exclusives coming to the PS3 than the 360. While this is a true fact, I’m going to buy 1 game on that list. I have my eye on 3 other exclusives but I’m not sure about them. The upcoming HOME is a great idea and is something I’m interested in.

Xbox 360 is not a movie player for me, so I don’t have to talk about that.
Xbox 360 is a great game system. I like the Xbox Achievement system. I like private chat, in which I can talk to my friend, while my friend is playing the same game, a different game, or even if I’m not playing game and he is. I can play music I have store on my Xbox 360 while playing any game I want, I don’t always do this but it’s a nice feature. Currently I’ll be buying 5 exclusives games coming to the 360 and I have my eye on 2 more but I’m not sure about them. I haven’t had a problem since I bought mine in Nov. 05, so it’s been reliable to me. The out of the box recharging cable is longer than the PS3 so I can still play games on my couch while charging.

As far as the Elite 360, I don’t care about it. It has nothing I’m interested in. 120GB HD would be nice, it something I’m not going to buy any time soon if at all.

I agree MS should have included a HDDVD or Blu-ray drive in the machine for the simple fact that they have more memory than a standard DVD. But if I have to switch Disc, then that’s fine, I did it before I can do it again. I can understand why they went with DVD drive instead, but I think that if want to support something over another then you should support it, not stand on the sidelines. IF MS included a HD-DVD drive in there system I would most likely have HD-DVD movies.

Well, that’s my two cents

Well said MasterXeus, and without bashing anything or anyone unlike myself who took out my frustrations of my job on Microsoft and the "Elite".

Did not intend to offend.

But for those PS3 Enthusiasts this is a REPOST of the PS3 Video:

I was planning to pickup a 360 at some point as I'm a gamer and not a fanboy per say. When I found out that you had to pay for the ability to play online, I nixed that idea. I just refuse to buy something and then have to pay to use it. I have no problems with people who do, I just refuse to participate. I find it interesting that Xbox Live for PC games will be free while they will still charge 360 owners.

I know what you mean, but it's not going to be free. PC vs PC will be free, but PC vs. 360 will cost you. I really don't agree with paying for online game play, but I can afford 4.16 a month to play with my friends.

It's not a matter of cost for me as I could certainly afford it. I just refuse to be gouged by them.

On the pc side, just about every game (except the morpg's) has been free to play online. Only MS attempts to charge people for this.

I don't have any problems with people who choose to pay for it. I do have a problem with people who argue that the service is somehow better because they pay or that online gamers should expect to pay for online play.

I am such a "fanboy" I own all 3 systems. Fanboy?! That's the dumbest name you could put on someone who owns everything available! I guarantee you do not own a 360 and probably not a Wii-so, what does that make you? A little biased? A "fanboy"? I get on here to voice my opinnion and you (and others) feel it necessary to bash me and "shut them (me) up." And members with "facts"? If facts were that important the Sega Dreamcast would be in everyone's collection instead of the PS2 (which I own both of too)!

OUCH-It's breakin' my bank! No one is claiming to be "better" Whatever floats your boat. Don't pay to play online with MS. Go back to your Everquest-that way Sony will get your money!

This forum is composed mainly of adults who discuss topics without much emotion. We are biased somewhat towards Bluray but this is the BR forum. Most of us appreciate the fact that we can post here without childish insults and attacks accompanying any post that sheds a negative light on the Xbox or HD DVD. In contrast to this, you can go over to AVS and see in both forums constant attacks and petty fighting on most posts.

We've started to see more occurances of what appears to be fanboyish behavior recently. Whether you are format neutral or are truly a fanboy or troll, you will likely be called a fanboy if you post with the type of rhetoric seen in this thread.
