How long before a stand alone with all the features and bells and whistles etc is out? Just curious.

Just click on Players: New on the top menu and you get the listing and the dates.

Okay so when these come out there will never be any need to get firmware updates anymore right??

I like firmware updates. It means that they keep making improvements! That's how I see it anyway.

Don't go kidding yourselves. This is consumer electronics. If you don't think there will be fancier bells and whistles announced next January for the market in Summer '09 you're just being funny. It's just like always.

Now you would have to take that up with the consumer electronic company who gets your money for a standalone. I personally think we wont see a firmwareless Blu-ray player until late this year or early next year, but hey I've been wrong before. If you are talking about a BD-Live player, that will be the Panasonic BD50 due out in April.
