Default theater projectors

ok so in my "if money didn't matter" theater i have the cinealta 4k projector and in the 6 million dollar theater they have the Sony SRX-R110 these are what the big theaters are using, sure they have 4 times the resolution of 1080p but i just noticed the contrast on these suck, the cinealta 4k is 2000:1 and Sony SRX-R110 is 1800:1 i mean really thats what we get when we go to the theaters. did i miss something?

That's why people should have put the Sony VPL-VW200 or JVC DLA-RS2 in their cost-no-oject theaters!

If you only knew that SMPTE practices specified 200:1 for theaters...

It all comes down to how the manufacturers "measure" the contrast ratios they publish... think 1000W shoulder-mounted boom boxes.

And Deciazulado is right, it is 200:1 and the way that is measured is specified by ANSI/NAPM IT7.228-1997.

Whenever contrast is quoted, it is almost completely meaningless unless the test method also quoted.

Nonetheless, where a modern digital projector is a few hundred to one, that is probably ANSI contrast, and if it's a few thousand, then it's FOFO contrast.

They must never be mixed up. Both are very meaningful, but cannot be compared.
