Default Actual Digital Movie Theater Projectors

Hey,

Just learned about some really high end pj's... (~$100,000).

Maybe it's not news to anyone but me but ... I have a new contender for my next projector purchase... Add this one to my wish list...

There is a DVI-D input though...

I'm so curious how good Blu Ray would look running through one of these with a 20 meter screen.

I've been thinking about this machine since learning of it's existence. My current plan is to become a pro athlete and buy one.

What kind of sports can you get into when you're about 40? I can't golf of bowl but I'm motivated to learn.

Considering how it is 4096 x 2160, a Blu-ray would be upscaled and would probably look good, but these aren't really designed for Blus.

It's all where your priorities are. My dad bought 5 cars, and has no desire for something like this. You sound the opposite way, so you just have to do a give and take and realize you'll trade something for this if you don't have an extra 100,000 dollars sitting around.

At 40, golf would probably be your only bet.

putt putt is a lot different than playing golf.

Oh snap.

Well... in that case I'm going to rent 21 again and try to learn to count cards. Keep this under you hat though... I don't want to get in any trouble.

good luck with that. 21 spells it out for you very well, but don't make the mistake of going to Vegas thinking you are ever going to win money.

Say it with me, "THE HOUSE ALWAYS WINS".

It's sad, but true.

That contrast ratio isn't particulary impressive.

But that's just numbers.

Actual movie theater projectors do have lousy contrast ratios for the most part though. You won't get decent black levels at the theater but the really big screen still makes it pretty immersive.

I've never seen one in action, but a number of people who have seen Sony's 4k projectors in action at trade shows/demos have reported that they are disappointing in terms of image quality.

At this point, the best image from projectors in the ~$100k price range are from 3 chip 1920x1080 DLP. The ones that would top my list in that category are the Barco DP-2000, the Christie HD-6KM or HD-10KM, and the Digital Projection Titan.

yeah I'm going to agree with you on that, people see the 4K and think wow this must be amazing.... Also the SRX-S110 was a big disappointment.

Well,

Allrighty then,... I'll just save for a VW50 and hope I never need to use it because my Sony VPH G70 keeps on keeping on.

Thank goodness I don't have to try to go learn golf.

I wonder what models are being used in theaters now?? Theaters that are all digital... that would probably be the projector to have. I guess they currently use some proprietory format with some encryption but I would imagine in a few years it would not be unthinkable that an individual could buy one and figure out how to display movies with it.

I don't even know that it's a proprietory format, just guessing.

Weird, when I did a google search for 'all digital theaters' the article has a picture of that sony projector.

If that is what they use at AMC theaters, I would have to say there is nothing wrong with the resolution or how they look.. they look great.. although personally I'd rather watch a film projected even if it had some grain or scratches.

Here is the second article I found, also mentioning the sony projector.

Digital cinemas use a harddrives for their sources of movies. And they come in at the resolution of 4K. The reason why most Digital Cinemas are 2K right now is because all the companys making them don't have much to offer. And since 4K tech is still immature we have lots of problems with them.

The digital projectors we have over here are Christie 2K. It's used for 2D and 3D projection. And they are massive and require ducts to suck out the hot air. The actual storage rack is really small though compared to reels. It's just a table with a computer and hard drives. The other rack is for the sound gear.
