Ok I've been noticing this....
How come all the HD trailers, ps3 games have really nice blacks on the screen, but when I watch a bluray movie, the blacks look terrible? Everytime I get to a dark scene or if there's anything black on the screen like someone's shirt, its really washed out and grayish and you don't notice the detail. So I cranked up the brightness on the TV, the details stared popping out, but now the whole screen is gray. I had an old CRT that looked really nice and didnt have this problem with bluray, but now I do with this TV. |

I think you have your settings wrong somehow. I have this same set (only 46") and don't have the problem. All my blacks look great. Fiddle around with all the settings, or you can try one of those Calibration Tools that come on all Sony Blu-rays or Ratatouille.

try turning the contrast up, and the backlight & brightness down. You might also have a HDMI black level setting (I know Samsung does) you could try using that. Also If you put your PS3 setting at RGB full It will help.

I have no idea what an HDMI black level setting is, but it does have a Black Corrector setting. I have that as medium. I had it at high before, it does look black, but the black flooded out all the details in dark areas so I lowered it. |

Go through the Rat disc, and try to calibrate your set. But there has been word that the brightness settings on that disc are a little too bright. There is also a calibration set up on all Sony titles. You need to access it by typing "7669" (witch spells Sony) at the title screen.

7669 on which disc?
I'm watching Rat right now, it looks really nice. Don't think I've ever watched it on this TV before. EDIT: tried 7669 on the spiderman disc, only a buncha pictures appeared. I have no idea what to do there.lol And I don't know how to calibrate with the Ratatouille disc. Last edited by Anhslaught; 03-21-2008 at 12:10 AM. |

The Sony disc "7669" feature is just the patterns. You can try to Google it, or I think Paidgeek gave some tips somewhere on this site. Or you can wait for this. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=354K6N6HSKAG2 |
