I've heard mixed results up and down the spectrum myself. When in doubt: Don't.

I have never used ABT, but believe based on what I have read that most purchases from that site are problem free. Like any on-line retailer, risks abound and brick and mortar stores are the safest and best option in case of problems, especially with DOA products. I buy most products on-line and have researched ABT enough to feel comfortable with it when it beats an on-line retailer, price wise, I have used and trust. So far, it hasn't happened, ABT has never offered the lowest delivered price for me when I have considered it. I do believe it has been around a long time, a good sign.

Thats where I bought my Sony Big Screen when I lived in Chicago... EXCELLANT retailer.... Never dealt with them mail order, but I can't imagine any problems.

Not sure with the on-line stuff, but in person, they are VERY open to negotiation!

I ended up going with OneCall; they have a shipping warehouse in WV which is good for me being in MA. With luck, my Sony 70" XBR2 will be here by the end of the week...

About Abt, well I think Variety or Hollywood Reporter has filed articles where they interview CEs and CEOs of consumer electronic stores about HD-DVD and BD. In one of those articles, they quoted a Michael Abt as the President of Abt Electronics. So CLEARLY, they've got good rep.

Michael Abt graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in biology, environmental conservation and has a teaching certificate in high school science. He taught biology, skiing and instructed at the Colorado Outbound School for four years before going to the University of Vermont Medical School for one year.

Abt returned to Chicago in 1989 and began working for his family electronics and appliance business. In addition to working for the family business he also work for the University of Chicago Business School as a team builder for first year students. Abt has also volunteered at the Shedd Aquarium as a naturalist and has worked for intercity children's programs as a team leader.

Michael is currently on the Board of Directors for the Pro Buying Group which consists of the finest electronics dealers in North America and is a current member of the Young Presidents' Organization, Chicago Chapter.

I've purchased online from Abt several times and never had a problem. I bought one of my 4 HD televisions from there, and my dishwasher. Just a few months ago I bought a new Panasonic fax machine that arrived DOA, and they took it back and exchanged it with no hassle whatsoever - they even paid for the return shipping and to send me the replacement.
