Red face Buying PS3 Need some info from owners

Ok later today i am going out and buying a ps3...I'm getting the 40 gig one
I dont play games much but i liked playing call of duty 4 and rainbow six on my friends xbox...I like watching blu ray movies so i figured ps3 would be cool plus you get online updates and the bd live stuff...

Anything i need to know...Is the ps3 the exact same player for blu ray as the stand alones...like the bd s300
I will be using it in my living room and it seems to be smaller and nicer on the eye.

I might buy a game or 2 also. cod 4 or uncharted maybe...

Is the 40 gig ok to get...i dont need backward compatible...just something to watch blu rays in on my hd tv..and use surround sound on.

i figure 60 and 80 is better but i dont have that money for that kinda item right now.

Thanks any info to make my purchase easier is appreciated
And what do i need if i buy the 40 gig
ethernet cable and blu ray remote?
any certain type of ethernet cable???

Any ethernet cable should be perfectly fine for you. You will want to get the Blu-ray remote, not necessary, but a lot easier than using the controller. And if you are only going to occasionally play a game then the 40gb should be perfectly fine for you. Get an HDMI cable if you don't already have one, if you can wait order one online for cheaper.

Also Uncharted is really fun and looks pretty damn good too. Haven't played COD4 so can't speak for that, but have heard good things about it. Another fun one is Resistance: Fall of Man, first-person shooter if you are into that type of game it is a lot of fun and again looks really good

I'd get the remote if you're going to watch a lot of movies with it. I love that thing.

The PS3 supports wireless so if you have a wireless access point you don't need any ethernet cable.

You will need a HDMI cable though. It only comes with an a/v cable.

I've been recommending the 40-gig PS3 to friends. If you end up wanting more hard disk space later, you can easily upgrade the hard drive. There are a few other minor differences but (less USB ports for example) but none of them have mattered to my friends looking to get one. Still worth checking out though, just to make sure. The PS3 website has a link that lists the features/differences of each.

Hands down, the PS3 is the best piece of hardware I own. I own a 60 and the 80 (wanted/needed only the 40 to play blus in my bedroom, but my wife bought me the 80 b/c it came with a game...). Trust me, you will not regret it. It's the best overall blu-ray player out there IMO and I think it looks really nice with my other components. Finally, if you are thinking of games, definitely get Uncharted. Good luck.

Wireless is good, but I don't think it's reliable enough for COD 4 matches (or maybe my router just sucks).

Anyway, the PS3 has a gigabit port so get CAT 6 to future proof, if you're going with wired. And wired is a lot better for streaming media from a PC, if you're gonna do that thing.

Edit:
But wait, the PS3 already comes with a CAT 6 cable out of the box, its about 3 feet long. I have a 60 gig.

I play CoD4 online on wireless all the time, no probs. it has an awesome single player campaign, and awesome online play

Uncharted is a sweet game and has jaw-dropping visuals; cool story and everything too, it's the total package

Yeah the remote is a must have. If you have a logitech universal, there is an IR adapter you can buy here http://www.schmartz.com/product.sc;j...=1&productId=2. Otherwise, the Bluetooth remote works great. The ethernet cable is included. HDMI cables are a must. Also if you have an older home theater reciever that has optical, you'll want an optical cable too.

...and once you get your PS3 connected to the internet you can download the demo version of the games before you decide which ones to buy.

The only negative to the remote is that it doesn't have a backlight, which is a flaw in my opinion.

This Will be the best purchase you make, blu-ray was the main reason why i choose the PS3 over the 360 when i purchased it at "$599". And i am amazed almost everyday when i figure out something new that i have not been using, by the way just beat COD4, GET THIS GAME you will not regret it.

one more negative would be that every button turns the PS3 on...its very easy to accidently hit a button and the PS3 turns on. Semi annoying but if you put the remote away its not a problem.

I always turn my main power off at the rear of the unit so I guess I haven't noticed this issue yet. If it's left in stand-by mode, I can see where this could be an issue.
