Default 5.1 or 5.1 uncompressed

should I use Dolby Digital 5.1 or Uncompressed 5.1 when watching a BR? I don't have a receiver that takes HDMI (YET) but my receiver does have 5.1 analog input on the back. Can I get 5.1 uncompressed through the inputs on my receiver, or does that only work with HDMI??

My system includes:
Panasonic th-42pz77u - 42" Plasma
DMP-BD30 - Blu Ray Player
Kenwood VR-305 Receiver

Thanks in advance for any help!!

DVD's don't have 5.1 uncompressed soundtracks.

Assuming you mean Blu-ray discs then uncompressed is always the way to go...assuming your receiver has HDMI and can process the PCM track.

Yes you would want to use the 5.1 uncompressed when you are watching a BR!!! It will sound much better then DD but then again the only way you are goign to get the uncompressed is by using the 5.1 analog

In the most simple terms, think of the difference between uncompressed and the other as the differerence between a CD and an MP3. It is quite significant, depending on the system you are using.

Agreed!

When you have the right type of receiver you can definitely tell the difference

op can tell it with what he has now... depending on the speakers... which could be a factor...
connect the 5.1 rca audio out to the kenwood 5.1 in and choose "PCM" on the panny player...
then rent House of Flying Daggers.

With my new Denon receiver and Polk Audio speakers I couldn't believe all the sounds I was missing with my old Technics receiver. Yesterday while re-watching Troy. I could hear the blades wizzing by my ears when Pitt and Bana were fighting. It was truly amazing!. I felt like I was right in the middle!! Even suttle sounds like the waves of the ocen and the horses galloping were very distinctive

BEST INVESMENT EVER!!! BLU-RAY ROCKS BABY!!
