Looking to purchase home theater setup

Simply put, i am looking to invest into a home theater audio setup. Here is what i am currently running...

42" Toshiba Regza 720P HDTV
40 Gig PS3
Toshiba HD DVD Player (I know....)
Directv Cable box


I would like to invest in something nice, but not too expensive. I've heard really good things about Onkyo, but i know those come at a higher price. Basically, i'm looking for a nice 7.1 setup that i could take full advantage of with the components listed above. Who makes a solid complete Reciever/Speakers package in the $500-$600 range?? Is there a such thing?!?


I would appreciate any input you guys/gals can provide me with. I would hate to invest several hundreds of dollars in something inadequate!

Onkyo HT-SR908 ($745)

This (908) system is the Onkyo 605 with speakers included.

It is the cheapest HDMI v1.3 system out that includes speakers...and frankly, I would not settle for anything less. Granted you could get a 605 and buy seperate speakers, which would probably be better overall.

$745 was a little more than i wanted to spend, but anything home theater realted is gonna cost a few extra bucks! Anybody have this setup mentioned?? Any pros/cons to mention?

...My father has an Onkyo 605 and it sounds great and does everything you need for the price. I have not heard those speakers before so my only gripe would be the size, they are more torward apartment/ small room size.

But again, I have not heard the audio quality from the speakers so my answer is to be taken with a grain of salt...but the Onkyo 605 receiver itself is great.
