Default My Home Theater Setup

Well, here it goes. My fiance and I just bought a house and I'm going to setup the living room as our theater room.

I wanted to start a thread on here for my progress and have it as a record for myself (as well as others). It's not going to be anything too impressive, but it'll be MINE

Some shots of before painting:

This is the wall for the screen

Second half of the screen wall...

After painting... (old projector)

And, the projection wall waiting for the new projector before painting the screen. And...fiance smiling, probably thinking I'm crazy

Wish me luck!

I will slowly start adding pictures of before, during, and after the process.

Wish me luck!
Good luck! If you don't mind me asking, but, what's your budget and what are you thinking of getting? It will be nice to see how it all comes together.....

Well I already have most of my equipment that I'll be using. My projector, speakers, receiver, and PS3...some of those I may upgrade slowly (especially the receiver).

So what I'm simply looking at now is the painting, what colors, how I want to do my projection screen (I'm thinking about painting it on the wall as opposed to stretching material over a frame like I currently have).

I'm looking at www.paintonscreen.com for the screen paint (anyone who has any experience with the product and how it performs, please let me know). I'm looking at doing a neutral flat green or a nice brown/caramel for the wall colors to prevent to much reflection from the walls.

My budget only includes my painting and the screen, plus any wiring I'll need to do through my attic to get to the projector, so most likely only a few hundred dollars.

Sounds like you have only the "fun" part left to do. I like a light color brown personally, I feel that color really does well in home theaters. Your screen idea is something I plan on doing in my basement as soon as my kids vacate the area (like another 10-12 years or so ). Lastly, you are lucky being able to run the cables thru the attic. That should make it easy to run them without having to worry about hiding them. Try to provide some before and after pics as you make progress and good luck!.

If you are doing in-wall wiring you should check out monoprice.com and go with the 12g speaker wire that is in wall certified if there is such a thing. They have great prices and great quality for their products!

Was actually just looking at monoprice a little while ago. I will most likely be purchasing most of my wiring stuff there since I've heard the name go around so much on here when cables are mentioned.

I saw some decently priced cable management stuff at Lowe's, so I'll probably get some of the corner pieces to be the least invasive in the room.

I didn't even think about running things through the attic until my co-worker mentioned it, it will make things a lot better looking and easier hopefully (well...after drilling some holes).

Since I actually have the electricity on at the house now I can take some pictures of the place after work.

As you can see from my pics the drywall work will be easy part....there will be no wires anywhere...all components will be ran to the closet and set up there so everything will be tucked away nice and neat....a very clean look to the room...i can't wait till its completed....

Run extra cables and speaker wire with the original run to your equipment as well. This way if you have any issues with the original cable/wire, you'll already have an extra cable/wire there to be used and won't have to mess with going back up into the attic to re-run another one. This is a great idea once needed....saves a lot of time and hassle.

Wow...is there some kind of CPS for HT gear? Because those poor components are definitely victims of neglect.

I'll have the before pics up soon, we ended up going with a nice chocolate brown color. Oddly enough I think we ended up picking it just because it was called "Oregon Trail"...just hope it doesn't make me die of dysentery.

I have one coat done and another to go, I'm going to be ordering the screen paint today so I can finish the last wall as well.

Little delay on the pictures...but they're coming (just haven't had time, I work for an accountant...and it's that time of the year).

I have looked at cables at monoprice and have come up with a pretty good list of supplies I'm going to need. Please let me know if you know of any better options with relatively similar pricing (I know I'm going to need that 40ft of HDMI cable too...)

Wow, made my order from monoprice today and they got me a tracking number a half hour later...not too shabby.
