![]() Actually...... Simon Templar (The Saint) was in books (1928) and films (beginning 1938) 25 years before James Bond. ![]() Roger Moore played The Saint in a 1962-1969 TV series TEN years before he played James Bond. ![]() It was a great show. I hope this gets picked up because it looks great, keeping the cool vibe of the original. ![]() ![]() Last edited by SquidPuppet; 04-03-2013 at 10:29 PM. |

I used to watch late-night re-runs of the old series during the eighties. Loved that show, and I'll certainly give this a shot.
Great to see Sir Moore in the new show....I've been worried that he was in no condition to perform any longer. |

So this is a bump for a 4-year old thread.
The Pilot for this proposed TV series was never picked up (go figure) However, the producers decided to salvage it and they shot new footage and made it into a self contained 96 minute TV movie. It was just released a week ago. Simon West directed the original Pilot, but they credited a new director for this version. Anyways, I watched it a few days ago and it was pretty dull. It was a pretty by the numbers procedural type movie. Adam Rayner (Bassam from Tyrant) was a super wooden lead. No charisma at all as Templar. Eliza Dushku played his right hand person. She was cool, but had nothing to work with really. She had no chemistry with Rayner. Roger Moore had a quick 3-4 minute cameo near the end. Pretty pointless. I guess if the show got picked up, he would have made occasional appearances. I think there was supposed to be a long-running adversary to Templar in the proposed series. However, in this version, they shot a wrap-up to end the plot involving the villain. In some scenes Rayner was wearing the beard he had in Tyrant (beginning and end) and the middle he was clean shaven. I'm guessing the scenes with him in the beard were shot while he was working on Tyrant. He shot the original Pilot before he was cast in Tyrant. Anyways, it's out there in digital world, but I thought it was a pretty forgettable movie. Glad the series wasn't picked up. Rayner was okay on Tyrant, but he just doesn't have the charisma to play Templar. I can see why no network picked this up. |

Am I the only one who thought that the 1997 movie had merit on its own?
I watch it from time to time and I have yet to find anything I dislike about it other than the 'obviousness' of Val Kilmer's makeup attempts. But in the scheme of the job he is doing, it is understandable that he'd keep simple enough disguises to throw full identification off of his trail. That and how Bruce Willis handles his disguises in The Jackal are neck and neck...and I seem to like both in my own ways. |
