Question Should there be a prequel to the "Mission: Impossible" movies?

I think there should be a prequel to the "Mission: Impossible" movies which goes back to the beginning of the IMF (Impossible Missions Force) and how it got started, especially with leaders Dan Briggs and Jim Phelps (before Brian De Palma did him in by his turning traitor on us), and agents Rollin Hand, Cinnamon Carter, Barney Collier, and Willy Armitage. But of course, they'd have to do it right. My cast for a prequel would be...

Dan Briggs ... Victor Garber or Hugh Laurie
Jim Phelps ... Jason Isaacs or John Schneider
Rollin Hand ... Barry Pepper, Michael Shannon, or Aaron Eckhart
Cinnamon Carter ... Elizabeth Hurley, Debra Messing, Cate Blanchett, or Joan Allen (Hey, a guy can dream!)
Barney Collier ... Derek Luke or Taye Diggs
Willy Armitage ... Vinnie Jones, Jason Statham, or Ray Winstone

I like your selections, even tho I don't know much about the original M:I series. I'd love any Mission:Impossible as long as Tom Cruise wasn't in it. Matter of fact, I think any movie is better for not having Tom "Pogo" Cruise in it.

The Original TV Series is out on SD boxset up to Season 4, in all its smart-stuff crack-addictive glory--
One single disk of which will make you appreciate Brian dePalma for keeping the first movie true to canon, and want to slap Cruise for letting the franchise go to his moronically grinning head. (Or board posters newbie enough to think the story really IS about Cruise's character.)
Let's just say the original series was more about the CIA break-in, and less about Cruise rockclimbing and kickboxing.

(John Woo claimed he'd "never seen the TV show in his life" before directing the unholy mess that was MI:2, and...do freakin' tell. Why are we not surprised?
JJ Abrams tried to direct 3 as a combination of 1 & 2, but the Cruise poison was still in the franchise's bloodstream. I had to go back and flush out my brain with a few more disks of the TV series.)

I think all of these movies were action trash, I walked out of the theatre during the first one, I admit the second one was OK and I dont mean to insult those who love these films, but I think this trilogy should stay dead!

You mean like
"Mission Impossible: The Years in Training"
or
"Mission Impossible: The High School Years"
or
"Mission Impossible: Kindergarten Sessions"

as long as it is like 1 and 3, and not like 2, I'd be in on it.

For the most part, I think this has run it's course. Not to mention, I'm tired of scientology guy...Mr. Katie Holmes.

Well I'm in the same boat as you, but I really see this year being a turning point in Scientology, when the boat begins to tip.

More and more people are feeling comfortable talking about the dangers of Scientology and now that even Mike Rinder, head of security, has left the cult, within the next couple of years I really think it will suffer major set-backs as Hollywood folk steer clear. It makes it hard for youngsters to not consider looking into it when their favourite Hollywood stars are known members.

Maybe in 10 years. Let it breathe a little after Tom's last one is released.

But if it happens, casting will be crucial.
