The elements look to be in much better shape than Windjammer and This Is Cinerama.

Pre-ordered through amazon. The price was two bucks lower for each movie compared to FAs website...

These are great. Does anyone know if The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm has any chance of being released in Smilebox? It's a true piece of cinematic history and it would be a shame not to see it converted.

Windjammer had to be redone from very inferior elements. For years a three panel version was thought to be lost. These appear to be mostly from negatives, although not kept under ideal conditions.

With the exception of HTWWW none were kept under good conditions and didn't have water damage. Even HTWWW needed restoration, and so far only HTWWW had a big budget for restoration work.

All of my BDs are a "considered" purchase and I'll rarely pay over £10, but even at £35 I had to order Holiday - South Seas doesn't seem to do it for me though.

Definitely a chance. In fact those working on the Cinerama restorations definitely want to do it. But there have been some trouble with that movie because some reels were damaged.

I doubt it was an actual hidef transfer since there's been some controversy about what MGM and Turner Classic Movies channels airing what is essentially not hidef content - but what I recorded and saw of 'The Wonderful World of Brothers Grimm' looked pretty tattered.

I went to the LA screening last summer of both Grimm and HTWWW.

The owner of the Grimm print was Austrailian. If I recall, the issue wasn't necessarily the damage to the prints, but I CAN confirm that during the first half of the screening the right side of the screen had a defintite color timing issue that didn't match the center and right side: it was yellowed out quite noticeably.

After the intermission, the color WAS consistent, so at least one of the 6 reels he has isn't quite right. As for tears, gouges etc I do recall that overall I felt it was a pretty clean copy, with a few things here and there (to be expected I'd say for something like this).

If anyone else was there to back this up, I'd like to hear your take. It was a great screening.

^ thanks I was really not finding it for some strange reason.

question; Flicker Alley's product listing of 'South Seas Adventure' states:

"The film was restored from its original camera negatives, emitting both a breathtakingly colorful panorama and a sparklingly clear, seven-channel sound track."

so is this 7.0 surround sound then? (or 7.1?)

Its from an original 7 track sound track. But a totally different arrangement was used back then. Essential 5 speakers up front a 2 rear/side. The sound was recorded full range (no separate .1) The mixes on the Blu-ray are MA DTS 5.1 and and a Dolby Digital 2.0 mix.

Just got finished watching Cinerama Holiday, and have South Sea Adventure popped in now.

Great restoration on Cinerama Holiday. The initial shots of South Sea Adventure look like it is also good. Apparently they are now going from original negatives, although they were not held under ideal conditions, and starting the restoration from there.

From whom did you order these? Mine are on pre-order from Amazon, and I just got emails from them saying that they are not yet released and will notify me when they are available to ship.
