Default Home Media article (SlySoft Touts Bypassing Blu-ray Safeguards.)

This new article from home media magazine mentions that SlySoft Inc new AnyDVD software might pose a threat to BD+.

Quote
The software would appear to pose a serious threat to the security claims proffered by supporters of Blu-ray and BD+, including assumption the technology was impenetrable to hackers for the next 10 years.”

Perhaps the AnyDVD software is not a true circumvent of DRM and BD+ and the AnyDVD software might need constant software updates since BD+ security key can be changed on a per disc bases.

Here is the original home media magazine article. I am against piracy but it is interesting that there are companies that still make software that allows one to make a fair use backup copy or worse the ability to sale unauthorized BLU-RAY movies which violates the copy write laws.

They will end up getting sued out of existance like Bleem or whatever it was that played PS2 games on the PC. I don't expect them to be able to stand as a viable company releasing a product that is specifically designed to circumvent copy protection.

They headquarter themselves in New Guinea, where there are no extradition laws, or anything else that makes it easy to stop them through legal means.

BD+ is already patched

DO NOT USE THIS THREAD TO DEBATE THE MERITS OF FAIR USE, OR ANY OTHER "POLITICS" SURROUNDING ANYDVD OR DISC COPYING OF ANY KIND, NOR SHOULD YOU ENCOURAGE ENDORSE THE PURCHASE OR USE OF SAID PRODUCTS. DO NOT LINK TO ANY SITES OR SOFTWARE FOR OBTAINING SAID PRODUCTS. DISCUSS THE CONTENTS OF THE ARTICLE ONLY. FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THESE RULES (and the spirit of the rules for you loopholers) WILL BE DEALT WITH ACCORDINGLY

I never liked the efforts of some companies continuously trying to circumvent copyrighting technologies and piraters boasting about it every time they think they pulled one on the studios.

With BD+, it isn't as clean cut as some may think.

Good to hear that BD+ is already patched.

Hopefully they will figure out a way to stop the distribution of the product short of having to block the website on US dns servers.

The purchasers are violating the DMCA by "importing" the software.

Nothing is hacker proof, and anything that claims to be only invites more people who want a challenge or are out to prove the claim wrong.

Never underestimate the torturous hours of labor people will put into getting something for free, when it would have only taken minutes for them to get it legitimately.

Any official words or insider words from BDA or fox or the company who implement BD+ or other studios regards this issue?

Perhaps in the future some content providers will allow the Managed Copy feature to be turned on which allows consumers to make one legal copy of a film protected by AACS to a media server or recordable BLU-RAY drive.
Of course with BLU-RAY’s hard coating having the ability to make a managed copy is not as important as it use to be.

They will never enable Managed Copy. that's just something MS and the computer makers desperitely wanted for their media servers

They will continue to provide PSP/iPod versions in growing numbers, Maybe some HD-Lite stuff like Xbox Live. No studio wants you ripping their movies, period

It's something that the media clearly, and purposely upheld itself from writing is that BD+ was already patched when the story broke. Crack it...ok fine...the next day it's patched via a firmware update. All players will eventually have this (if they don't already...not sure). From this day, future BR discs will have this new patch applied at replication if I understand correctly.

These people that provide those types of softwares....sheesh...always been a petpeeve of mine.

I think the studios realize that in the long run every security scheme will be defeated. They wouldn't say this publicly but they are more concerned with protecting the first four weeks of sales from release of a title than anything else. Most of the revenue generated by a home video title occurs in that time frame, at least for day and date titles. To that end BD+ is an excellent tool as the changing protocol will always keep the pirates and freeloaders one step behind. Piracy should never be tolerated in a market economy.

To an extent, it's different than the PC market, but the major premise is still there.

They make most of their sales within the first few weeks of a title's release, if the copy protection can survive that long, then it's done it's job 'well enough'. At least with PC games, you'll occasionally find the copy protection patched out later in the game's lifespan.

"Ultimately bleem! won in court and a protective order was issued to "protect David from Goliath" [1]. Sony lost on all counts, including bleem!'s use of screenshots of PlayStation games on its packaging. The court noted that bleem!'s use of copyrighted screenshots was considered fair use and should be allowed to continue.

Despite the legal victories, the legal fees allegedly forced the company out of business. eBay auctions of some of the company's possessions were held soon after - including a huge library of worldwide game releases apparently used for compatibility testing."

they had to quit because of the legal fees, they won the lawsuit.

Not linking to the stuff I can understand but you are pretty much saying nothing can be said that's positive in any way to this matter ? doesn't that kill the debate by definition ? so what is the point of this thread then ? a succession of everybody repeating the same "yeah long live BD+ and down with that other software" through different words ?
