United Kingdom New star trek movie box set

Amazon UK have a new "remastered" box set listed containing 6 TOS movies and 4 TNG movies, with a couple of bonus discs. Does anyone have this? As want to kniw if this just a repackaging of the old discs or a new set, which might contain director cuts of 1,2 & 6

yep, its annoying as I cant decide if I should just wait for directors cuts! I heard the undiscovered country( I think that was the one) is awful in its theatrical form.

Ive never seen the directors cuts and cant find the dvds now, id rather have blu though. I cant see why the marketing department don't just release a proper blu set with directors and theatrical cut versions.

Undiscovered Country is fantastic.

Motion Picture is horrific, the director's cut isn't much better.

I bought the original 'movies' set out of ignorance. Wasn't even aware that they weren't including the DC of TMP. That being said, I'm not overly bothered. I can take or leave either version on the SE DVD so I'm not that concerned with going with the theatrical cut on the BD.

Wouldn't mind a DC of The Final Frontier though - one that removes God and any mention of him/it and probably about half of the remaining footage too. Boring movie is boring.

The Motion Picture is a great film, have watched the BD of that more than any of the others but it is a shame they didn't have the foresight when they did the Directors Edition to render the new CG in HD

I was hoping with the release of the new Trek film they might have spent the money to strike new 4k masters and give us some nicely detailed and DNR free releases but sadly not.

so torn about getting these films on blu, I don't own them at all, but have seen them all years ago.

its annoying as I assume the directors cut of wrath of khan and motion picture are both better than the theatrical cuts we get on blu?

I hate buying things only to get short changed!

always worried they will release directors cut boxset straight after I would buy this!!

arghhhhhhhhh what to do !!!!

TWOK DC adds about 4 minutes from memory. I wouldn't say that you're missing too much without those 4 minutes. One of them involves a nephew of Scotty's who later in the movie is injured or killed. In the theatrical cut you don't have the scene where you're told that he's Scotty's nephew so you lose that little bit of context, but I guess you can live without it.

I'm not sure of the reasoning behind going with the theatrical cut of TWOK over the DC, but with TMP it's because the addditional FX were rendered in SD and they couldn't be bothered to redo them. I hope that's the case and they're not just holding the DCs to ransom to be released at a later date and thus making people double-dip.

If the new set is just a repackage of the existing discs then I'm not interested, but if they are actually "remastered" then I'd add it to the wishlist.

Wrath of Khan
First Contact
The Undiscovered Country
The Voyage Home
The Motion Picture
Generations
The Search for Spock
The Final Frontier
Nemesis

That's how I'd list them (I still havent' seen Insurrection) - Undiscovered Country is one of the good ones. I've never seen the director's cut but I don't remember the theatrical one ever being dismissed as rubbish compared to it - the only one I can think of where fans think that is TMP.

I don't own any of the old ones on blu-ray, the boxsets never dipped low enough at the right time for me but I'm hoping this will go to £50 at some point. I much prefer this packaging to the bulky one of the last complete boxset.

They ARE the same discs, just in a nice new box (instead of the two original boxes). Paramount PR initially said that TMP would be a newly restored DC, however that was later retracted.

I do love that new box, but I can't pay £70 just for a box!

I love Generations, and abhor TFF. Everything down to TUC is very, very good. Nemesis down is very bad. The rest is still a good watch, just not brilliant. IMO.

yeah that's what im afraid of, I really want them but I don't want to pay 70 quid only for them to release DC versions 4 months down the line! especially after this repackage...it would be a biff EFF you to the consumer with love from paramount!

I remember people having similar worries when the films were first released on BD and them saying they would wait for the Directors Cuts which wouldn't be far off, that was 4 years ago

Its possible Paramount may release the Directors Cuts at some point but remember that only 3 films have longer cuts, the rest will be exactly the same so why not get this set now and enjoy some Trek and replace TMP, TWOK, TUC if/when they are released?

Chances are, if they even plan on releasing the DCs at some point then they'll wait until the JJA era movies are finished and ready to go. One big boxset, all the movies, including the DCs.
