yeah that's what im afraid of, I really want them but I don't want to pay 70 quid only for them to release DC versions 4 months down the line! especially after this repackage...it would be a biff EFF you to the consumer with love from paramount!

I remember people having similar worries when the films were first released on BD and them saying they would wait for the Directors Cuts which wouldn't be far off, that was 4 years ago

Its possible Paramount may release the Directors Cuts at some point but remember that only 3 films have longer cuts, the rest will be exactly the same so why not get this set now and enjoy some Trek and replace TMP, TWOK, TUC if/when they are released?

Chances are, if they even plan on releasing the DCs at some point then they'll wait until the JJA era movies are finished and ready to go. One big boxset, all the movies, including the DCs.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture is pretty interesting considering it started as Phase II. There's a great book on Phase II and it goes into great detail about the new series and it going from TV show to motion picture.

It ended up as one of the more cerebral science-fiction movies to hit theatres. Especially considering Star Wars was released two years before it!

Incredibly short-sighted to create SD special-effects for the DC. What were they thinking? Did the DC ever get a theatrical release?

I've avoided the Star Trek films on BD I've heard mixed receptions on them, especially the way they've been presented.

In my opinion there is no chance of that happening, they will leave this version on the shelfs for a few years then will come the next releases hopefully minted from brand new 4k transfers.

If anyone does want this new set though its currently £60 at Sainsburys Entertainment

I think it was screened at an event in the US but it never had a proper theatrical re-release, it was released on DVD after The Wrath of Khan then they started going forwards again with Directors Edition and Special Editions of films 2-10.
